Transfer Rumour Lamine Kone

He's a similar player to jags who will need replacing soon
My point exactly. It can't be denied that Jags is now on the downward slope. Not for one moment am I saying he is a decrepit old git, but if we have the opportunity to buy someone who knows his craft and someone we can keep hold of for a few seasons, then I am sorry, but sentiment should not be the reason to keep hold of a player past his sell by date.

So, if he's barred from the club, can he train with another club? Could he argue that they are affecting his fitness & ability to continue his PL career...restraint of trade perhaps?

Just curious...

Exactly right. Over the years we've kept on or extended the contracts of players who were manifestly at or near their "sell by" date - Pistone, Kevin Campbell, Big Dunc, Gravesen, Cahill, Kone, Howard, Hibbert to name but some. Besic is another one - wasn't he given a 5 year contract last season, despite spending more time injured than playing?

Jagielka and Baines have both served us well. However, past services should NOT be a reason to give them contract extensions.

Besic has the potential to be a quality player though. He deserves a chance under a manager who does proper fitness training.

Sadly in some persons eyes (Hibbo), our hardening of attitudes towards such issues have changed the club for the worse.
I understand where he is coming from, but unfortunately in this day and age, nice guys are get trampled on and there is a need to "man up"

Now that Moyes has barred him from the club I reckon this will be completed soon.

Fair play to the lad, he really is nailing his colours to the Everton mast.

Probably us offering him a lot more dosh than Sunderland has a lot to do with the titty lip from the lad, and he won't be arsed where he ends up as long as he's getting more wages.

I'm not sure, I think he has set his heart on Everton.

And why not, big wages, exciting new era at a big club and not to mention the opportunity to work with a world football legend like Koeman.

Anyone of a similar age to me who watched those European champs and world cups in the 80's and early 90's know that Koeman was one of the best.

Is this barring from Sunderland directly quotable? Would make sense for Moyes to take this stance after man child Lescott forced his move to Mancity!

i think that's mainly due to the fact we had very limited funds to replace them tbh. It was cheaper and easier (as well as moyes' mantra of preferring to stay with what he knew) to retain them. I can see us moving away from that under moshiri. Gibson must have had something in his contract that activated a new deal, because that was odd.

a promise off the old management i heard, and maybe Koeman didnt want to cause a bad feeling by reversing that promise - could imagine it would have caused a bit of unrest if he had done as well

Koeman was more than boss, I just have this feeling with Kone that it's all about the money, would be interesting though if Sunderland folded, and offered him what we did.

Kone, Hart, Rachid + 2, maybe 3, depends if we can bin off some rubbish.

we're not in europe, so IMO certain players aren't needed, but the fact most of our potential incoming signings will be jetting off to the ACON, we would be a lot thinner on the ground when that comes around and they may be needed for squad filling and cup games. We have enough money to afford to keep them, but is that a good enough reason.

I'm looking at gibson, cleverley, niasse, kone and rodriguez as ones who can be shipped off. People forget about tarashaj but he looked decent, get him a good loan, as well as galloway, dowell, kenny and davies.
