It's just about behaviour. There's a way and a means of conducting yourself in his position and him/his agent are well wide of the mark. He was unheard of when we plucked him from the bottom end of the French league - he had done nothing in his career at 27yo. He plays 16 premier league games for us, decides he's not paid enough and he/his agent go on a month long campaign to engineer a move. The club were brilliant last week in calling his bluff and telling him that he would get a contract offer. Flushed him out. Now he's exposed for what he is - a bad professional.

What would managers such as Brian clough think of agents in the modern game? They are leeches sucking money out of the game for their own benefit. Kone has had his head turned there is no doubt and if he has turned down a new contract offered by the club that's fair enough (even if you don't like it). But to pull a stunt with his 'bad back' on the eve of a derby game shows a distinct lack of respect for Sunderland.

He wants more money obviously but we're also much more likely to offer better prospects.
It's looking very tough for you guys with the possibility of losing another centre back. We were in a desperate position when Moyes came to us and he had little money but he slowly managed to turn the club around. He might be able to do the same for you starting with the Koné money.
You can see from some of the posts here that we're all still very grateful for what Moyes did for us.

He's already got a contract - it runs out in 2020. He's decided 16 games into a premier league career that he "deserves" more and will do anything to get it. This from a bloke who got to the age of 27 without anyone outside of France knowing who he was.

.....absolutely. All I'm saying is that power is with the players these days and many will exploit it no matter how unsavoury it is. Supporters, though, are quick to accept it when they are the beneficiaries but quick to condem when it's a player from their club. Unfortunately, Professional values are becoming rarer.

Back to my original point, what influence has his agent got in the stunt that he pulled today? I'm sure Kone and his agent stood to make a sizeable amount of money on offer from Sunderland in their contract offer, it's just that he and his 'client' stand to make even more out of everton's offer. We stood firm last year under pressure to sell stones to Chelsea (including media pressure) do you think Sunderland are in the position to do the same?

I wouldn't be sorry to see us give this guy a wide berth.

Just as Lescott did to us. A player we took a chance on with his dodgy knees. Took his career to new heights, England cap, then when the offer came, he downed tools. His character (or lack off) showed itself at city & at villa when he was posting pics of his car when they were going down.

I know he says he had a promise, but there's a right way to do things & what he's doing isn't it!

So after he signs and we have a bit of success we know what to expect. But they only come to the prem for the cash so this behaviour is best ignored, it is quite normal for the underpaid little darlings. I partially hate football now.
