Everton Transfer Thread 2016

Aye...I have to be honest @The Esk this is quite hyperbolic. No one puts Koeman on that pedestal of Mourinho, Löw, Emery, Blanc, even Pellegrini and de Boer (tho' the latter only with Bergkamp & Stam included) were on a higher pedestal from the pool of potential managers we were all talking about.

Sure Pellegrini apparently didn't impress in the job interview, but Koeman has a lot to prove still. His record is ok-to-good...not great. He does seem a step up from Martinez and possibly Moyes too, but he's not the "very high profile and quality" manager who's "way beyond" media expecation.

So perhaps reign in the hyperbolic optimism a bit and let's all quietly wait for action. Hopefully it'll come soon and we can discuss real tangible things again.

Vast swathes of the U.K. footballing press, and football fans up and down the country were questioning why Koeman would leave a Southampton team headed into the Europa league for Everton who'd finished bottom half in consecutive seasons. That tallies with what Esk said about appointing a manager beyond what the press expect of Everton.

Number 8. Whats interesting about Davies is when he first made the step up to the under 18's he played right back for a few games in the autumn of his first year as a scholar. We had Walsh who was majestic in there and Williams often played too, sometimes Ledson/Kenny played in there too.

However he was the captain of the under 16's the season and they obviously wanted him involved so he played right back and did so very competently. I wonder if that information has been passed on to Koeman.

He will be a number 8 for us long term though. It's a shame Unsworth didn't get a longer run at the back end of last season as you would have seen far more of him and I think he'd have made a big impression. He is a real Ebbrell type midfield player but with better quality on the ball. I see him being a box to box midfield player. Before that he may be moved around a little but can't imagine that will happen too much for too long.

The best way I could put it with Davies is that he ticks every box. He can pass, dribble, beat a man, tackle, intercept, head, get around the pitch, nick the ball etc. There may be lads who exceed him on some areas (Walsh for example is a far better passer with vision) but he doesn't have any obvious weaknesses. I think he will be a similar player to what we hoped McCarthy would be.

Just saying, there's no reason to suggest that Jimmy Mac can't become this player. His form wasn't the best but he was hindered by RM this last season, definitely,

I agree wholeheartedly with this and a lot of the points you've made in this thread mate.

Personally, if I'm RK, I look at the starting eleven and try to bring in players that improve the quality of that, rather than squad players. EG, how many people are saying "bring in a backup RB for Coleman"? I'd argue that we shouldn't be bringing in backups. We should be looking at players to improve the first eleven.

Our first choice eleven:

GK: Robles
RB: Coleman
LB: Baines
CB: Jagielka
CB: Funes Mori
CM: McCarthy
CM: Barry
AM: Barkley
RW: Deulofeu
LW: Mirallas
CF: Lukaku

From that list, we MUST improve on the GK, CB, 2 CM's and maybe LW in my opinion.

The players that are dislodged then become the backups. If we aren't able to bring a player in, we use the youth players as the "backups".

Thanks mate and I agree 100%. I wasn't trying to have a go at the lad at all but I'm not worried about the players who have left. The last thing I want us to do is going and buy a load more Cleverley's/Lennon's to pad the squad out. We need people who can make a difference. Right back is a classic case, you've seen 3 lads at the back end of last season play the position and all do ok (some better than ok) in Kenny, Connolly & Pennington. Why sign a lad on decent money who will set on the bench 90% of the time just to get in their way. If Coleman isn't good enough fine, sell him and get someone in. However if we keep Coleman we shouldn't put more lads in the way of the young players. Just piling on more lads isn't the answer.

Had a stroll around town this afternoon, quite nice out there really. Had a wander through the Eden shopping centre and purchased myself a Mi-Shake with maltesers, galaxy caramel and kitkat in. Quite expensive for the amount you get really.

Just watching a fat woman waddle out of Iceland from my office window now, she's screaming at her kids and trying to keep hold of the pushchair that's got about 40 bags of chicken nuggets hanging off it.

She doesn't look like she has any transfer news either.

You reply to my original post and say my point is irrelevant????? Do you understand how point and discussions work mate. How can my own point be irrelevant in my discussion.

Wow.

Could be wrong, but didn't you accuse him off ignoring something which he then redponded to? What's the problem with that?

maybe you could give her a hand?

Because he's insurance in case we get an injury and it ends up costing us two semi-finals.

Spot on.

Whilst we're on the subject, I would remark on how the striker situation is different to the RB position to preempt any "No backup for Lukaku then?" Here, the manager may want to play two strikers; he will never play 2 Right Backs! So it is perfectly acceptable to have a "backup" striker brought in here, as he can also be used in unison with Rom at times.

aye, I conceded that bit especially after hearing that presenter's woeful argument. The press have never been much into Everton, and even when we do get the odd blue working for mainstream media it tends to be ones who put us down (maybe that's how they got the gig).

Where I don't think there's much debate is the importance of securing new signings these next two weeks.
