Everton Transfer Thread 2016

My only point on this Mikey would be that I think we have enough squad players that are in and around the first 11 but we need some really quality. I'd rather have three top class (realistically mind) signings than 5 or 6 decent ones.

Oh I'd love a couple of big signings, but I'm just not that arsed if we don't get them so long as we get some decent signings in to flesh out the squad depth

Mata and Witsel plus a couple of stronger "B Level" signings would suit me just fine in all honesty

We'd be immidiately better

How is it that black and white? Look at the 13/14 season, we signed 3 players on deadline day after we'd drawn our first 3 games. With Lukaku, Barry and McCarthy for those games we could very possibly have picked up 7-9 extra points, which would have got us 4th come the end of the season. So to say the timing of signings doesn't matter is ridiculous, there's under 4 weeks til the start of the season and we're doing nothing, Elstone is in Kenya and Bloo Bill is sat on his fat sausage hands watching Billy Elliot reruns from the 1980s

You don't know what the club is doing. So straight off the bat you are adding to the moaning by stating they are doing nothing.

And this is silly.

Timing matters and better have them in now than last day for sure, but Zat somehow thinking that we should have first team players signed by his deadline of July 18th and deciding that the fact we haven't is a disgrace to which there is "no defence" or "no excuse", is also silly.

So players who were never on our radar and probably never have been, are unproven in this league and will take a year or so to adapt, probably, to add to the fact that our new boss has been in charge for about a day.

Yeah I'd rather trust Joel and Koeman really, at least for another year.

So, just to confirm you would prefer Joel over:

Bernd Leno (Germany 2nd choice keeper)
Sergio Rico (Spain 2nd choice keeper)

Yeah?

Not really, if the board pay over the top wages to the first player just to get them on board, then this inflates wages for subsequent signings. There must be players there whose signing would be taken as "intent" without breaking the bank?
Unfortunately we have to pay higher wages to attract players who would normally go to teams above us. That's just the game.

I think that's the point. Moshiri doesn't have the financial clout to make a statement. To get us competing with the big boys. To finance us into the champions league. To win us trophies. Which is what was being said earlier in the window. It's now looking like that may have been a lot of hot air which brings up the question what are his intentions.
I agree I can't see how it happens without another investor also coming on board or heavy loans.

'Which was been said earlier in the window' by whom? Don't think anyone at the club such?

Yeh that'd suit me - throw in a keeper as well mind. If we sell Stones we also need a good replacement, obviously.

Presuming we do sell Stones but keep Rom, I just think we need four players who are ready-made to go straight into the first team:

- Box to box mid
- Playmaker
- Goalkeeper
- Centre half

After that, we need a good quality back up forward and then tbh anything after that is a bonus - obviously depending on any other sales.

Signing Robinho was quite a way for the new owners to announce their arrival at City, but did he actually make that much difference to them. I think I remembering him scoring against us, but I don't think he was all that special and soon left. I'm keen to see us make some signings, but they have to be good ones, players who'll lift us up the league and see us competing for trophies. I don't want us to pay through the nose to sign someone as a statement. As impatient as I am, Koeman must be allowed to assess the players and then make signings based on that. I think it's only today that he meets the entire squad, as the Euro players return. And maybe the Stones departure isn't as cut and dried as we all think.

The lack of activity up to this point is concerning. And I have been someone who has tried to take a positive outlook on everything since Moshiri's arrival. We may spring signings out of the blue, and get Witsel, but there is generally a 24-48 hour lead-up period where such activity gets widely reported in the media immediately prior to a signing and we don't seem close to any deal.

I am going to remain positive but we do need to start getting signings over the line this week. Traditionally there doesn't seem to be a lot of activity in the week leading up to the first game, which gives us a mere 3 weeks to get things sorted, and even though I want to deny it, nerves are twitching.

@Tubey - I agree with 22 July being the arbitary target, it's as good as any as an indicator of what will be the overall level of activity over the whole summer period, and the first game gets closer by the day.

I really wanted this summer to be the one where we got the bulk of our business done by the time the first pre-season game came around, with one or two other signings around deadline day/week, as the icing on the cake. The feel-good factor in full swing, Everton making waves as it were. I think most of us are both patient and realistic as regards the type of signings we can attract.

If someone could gaurantee me now that we would make 4-5 decent signings, but would have to wait until late August / deadline day, I would gladly take it, even though it would be far from ideal. It's the not knowing that get hard to deal with.

Ultimately Moshiri / Koeman / Ryazantsev / probably Steve Walsh / a GP facelift etc - it doesn't add up to a bad few months work but signings absolutely must crystallise.

The point is we're leaving it last-minute again: it's a big reason why we often start seasons slower than our rivals.

its not though. Its July 18th. There could be signings tomorrow. Its silly applying this arbitrary cut off point.

If we leave it last minute then by all means complain. But saying that theres no excuse or no defence for not having signings by today, right now is bizarre.

We might win back our 7th place trophy.

Feghouli and Tore. Both have massive attitude issues and it remains to be seen how they'll do. I do think Bilic is a good coach though so we'll see, though Tore was involved in the armed threatening of a Turkish teammate...

let's be honest, pretty much all other prem clubs have signed, for large fees, new players. how they turn out is a lottery.

we've lost 4 senior players and signed southampton's 2nd-choice goalie on a free.

let's be honest, mate...it's not good.

Keep in mind everyone that in Roberto Martinez's first Summer, the loans made our season.

When did they come in?

Spurs challenged for the title and finished 3rd...Champions League and all that.

the RS got to a final or two.

Both had a change of manager top achieve that mate. Half of the players they spent the money on were loaned out, sold etc. Markovic, Paulinho etc.
