Disagree. We've often concluded our business much later than our rivals and the result has been slow starts to the season, meaning we were playing catch-up.

We haven't learnt this lesson.
Agreed but I don't see us as being at that point yet. Usually we are getting players in late after the season has started.

For me the end of next week (29th July) is when I may start to panic a little.

Why should they learn this particular lesson when recent history tells us their concerns are valid?

Last season we signed Cleverley, Deulofeu, Lennon and Mori (that had an impact on the squad) in the summer window did we not?

Half of those (Clevs and Del) were signed at the start of July...

So no, recent history doesn't really prove you right?

I am not sure you fully grasped the point that @The Esk was making about wages and the Moshiri project.
The whole salary payscale of the club is to be overhauled. It is not just the salaries of the new signings. It has been suggested that Lukaku will be offered a salary of greater than 100k per week, Barkley the same. As contracts for other established players fall due there will be increases for those as well.
We are told that we are at least attempting to sign players of the calibre of Mata and Witsel their salaries alone, if signed, would push the club wages bill north of 10m per annum.
The point being made is that Everton almost overnight move into a different category of premiership club.No longer a middle of the road club, but an ambitious club with a payscale to match that ambition.

I don't think there is any other club in the premiership attempting such an ambitious upgrade , in terms of percentage increase in costs.

What is frustrating so many I think is that they want this vision realised immediately and are getting frustrated when it is not happening quickly enough.

The time to judge will be Sept 1st when the dust finally settles and until then it is argument and counter argument with so side able to prove their argument conclusively.
It may well be that what happens falls well short of what is being suggested or exceeds expectations.
I am around long enough to be prepared to wait and see.
Of course Barkley and Lukaku will need to go up but there's no reason any of the others would need to go up. We would be better moving them on and getting players that deserved those higher salaries. Currently they are being paid their market rates. e.g. We have a LB being paid 70K a week.

West Ham are paying Payet over 100K a week so other teams are paying their stars without having to pay their whole team. Once we sign better players we will pay them higher wages but we first have to sign them. Our wages will rise over a number of seasons. It won't just jump up for no reason.

we started the season alright, so yes it does prove my point.

I would rather get Carvalho than Witsel based on nothing but personal preference and the fact that Witsel appears to be yet another player who is neither a defensive or attacking mid. Carvalho as an undisputed anchor for the midfield would be great.

I honestly think Koeman will be assessing playing McCarthy or Besic in that role, while Barry is there as back up.

I think that will be tried first and then if it's not working we'll make a move for a DM, IMO.

I know he got some criticism but I would love Carvalho. The size of him alone is scary and he can play a bit too. probably needs to run around a bit more but he could be as inflential as a Yaya Toure.

We are in a world were Utd make 600m for one commercial deal.

What we need is massive investment to have us competing for trophies and top 4 - only then will we gain access to those kinds of commercial deals and be able to compete sustain-ably. All the teams in the top 4 already have that. I fail to see without external and I mean at least around 500m we can compete with them to get to that point.

The academy is nice but it's not going to pay the bills. Let's be real about that. At most we would be another Southampton. The new stadium just brings us to the level they are already at and will cost big money.

might as well just give up then

I've seen the comparison to Toure before. He runs a bit like him and is big and black but that's really where the comparison ends.
