Everton Transfer Thread 2016

The defence is the club doesn't have to work to some timeline that impatient panicky fans have made up in their head.

There will be signings by the close of the transfer window, that should be enough for you and all the other stress merchants.

Stating that there is no defence for the club not matching your exact requirements to have signed first team players by July 18th is more than just a little bit ridiculous.

How is it that black and white? Look at the 13/14 season, we signed 3 players on deadline day after we'd drawn our first 3 games. With Lukaku, Barry and McCarthy for those games we could very possibly have picked up 7-9 extra points, which would have got us 4th come the end of the season. So to say the timing of signings doesn't matter is ridiculous, there's under 4 weeks til the start of the season and we're doing nothing, Elstone is in Kenya and Bloo Bill is sat on his fat sausage hands watching Billy Elliot reruns from the 1980s

Last three played approximately 10-12 games between them last season, they are more than adequately replaced by Davies, Dowell, Pennington etc. Goalkeeper is an obvious area for strengthening. And we will.

We don't know that. They've hardly played any 1st-team action, and that final game vs a NEA relegated side proved nothing.

Howard, Osman, Pienaar and Hibbo have over a thousand games between them. It's a significant loss to the squad.

If Moshiri did not believe we could compete why would he have acquired his shareholding in us (with further share acquisitions ahead) ?

The Premiership is strewn with failures of rich men buying out big clubs: Mike Ashley, for example. Why did he buy Newcastle? He probably thought he could make them a success.

Words don't guarantee success, actions do.

To improve a squad in order to improve the chances of winning a trophy & competing at the top end of the table we need to spend more money.

The business plan as such will be focus on three areas (i) to progress us up the league of wage spenders (ii) bridge the current income gap through bringing players through the academy and (iii) develop the academy and our recruiting to generate future profits from player trading.

Looking at the first point we look to match the spend of Spurs initially and then to continue to progress our spending as new streams of revenue are created from sponsorship, commercial revenues and ultimately our new stadium.

I wrote a while ago that the biggest 6 clubs financially will between them generate £4-5 bn in extra revenues over the next 5 years. Not all of that will go on salaries. Much will be reinvested in their clubs or be returned to shareholders. So we have a huge challenge ahead of us. We won't bridge all of that income gap but we will generate sufficient levels of income to compete.

We are in a world were Utd make 600m for one commercial deal.

What we need is massive investment to have us competing for trophies and top 4 - only then will we gain access to those kinds of commercial deals and be able to compete sustain-ably. All the teams in the top 4 already have that. I fail to see without external and I mean at least around 500m we can compete with them to get to that point.

The academy is nice but it's not going to pay the bills. Let's be real about that. At most we would be another Southampton. The new stadium just brings us to the level they are already at and will cost big money.

We drew the first 3 games mate so we couldn't possibly have gotten more than an extra 6 points from them which still would have seen us finish a point below Arsenal

Better to sign one good player than being linked with 10 ace ones but not signing any of them to be perfectly honest.

Even the Witsel rumour has fizzled out it seems. Todays Echo is filled with exciting stories on Oumar Niasse and David Moyes.

End of whinge.

On the other hand: Leicester City kinda showed this whole game up as bollocks. At least for one season.

It's gonna be a compelling season coming up, so many angles:

- Guardiola vs Mourinho: José showing up Pep
- Conte's theatrics: how long 'til he slaps the 4th referee?
- Koeman vs Klopp: which sleeping giant will awaken?
- can Ranieri pull it off again?
- Spurs finishing below Arsenal

...and ultimately: does spending loads of money bring success? i.e. was Leicester a complete one-off?

It's true though Zat, we've signed a keeper on a cheap deal to come in and provide highly experienced competition, so it allows us more time to fully assess what keepers are available and at what price.

I'll only worry on that front if we haven't got one in by the end of the window.

Hes useless based on his appearances since going to roma...he went into freefall.

You don't think Kante and Batshuayi have improved Chelsea? If they get their CB target they are good to go and will probably win the league.

The rest have added to their already strong squads in the positions that they needed to add. Liverpool needed a player like Mane, Arsenal have needed a player like Xhaka for years. Same with City, Utd and Spurs. None of those teams needed that much but they have added top players where they needed them. So far we have failed to do the same and we need more positions in both our squad and 1st 11 filled.

I said Kante was a very good signing mate, but Batshuayi isn't going to win them the league is he... He's a good prospect but nothing world class.

City needed a fair few players lad, and Spurs have done some decent business. But you're acting like it's the end of the window. There's no indication that we won't get quality players in.

As much as the lack of signings is frustrating I also find it quite positive in that a new manager hasn't come in and spunked the lot on the first few players he can get his hands on. Tottenham and that lot did that with the Bale and Suarez money and it got them no were. He obviously wants to assess his squad, see what youth we have that might be included in the squad and go from there.

As I say, its frustrating in that we all want signings but encouraging that it looks like he wants the right players for the longer term view as opposed to half a dozen new faces for the squad to meet on there first day back.

Ah right, a single point below Arsenal. So we'd still have been in with a shout of 4th on the last day rather than out of it with 3 games to go
