My first real Everton idol. Him and Dave Thomas. Absolute Gods to an Everton mad little me. I cried when Big Bob left. Still remember taking my programme pull out pictures of him down off my walls and folding them up and putting them away with a heavy heart.

Thankfully Everton continued to break my heart at every opportunity over the following decades just so I never forget Bob.

I was allowed off the leash for special occasions.

Took a while before i was "unleashed" again after that one!
Been on the pitch all over the Country Bob over the years, but never at the Old Lady, just seems like sacred ground to me,but I'm envious of you treading the turf that great day mate!!

It's true what they say, you never forget your first love.

I remember him scoring at the St End first game back after he moved to Swansea.

If memory serves it was a far post toe poke after a corner. He just stood with both arms aloft as everyone cheered.

Virtually word for word what I was going to post.

Loved him. Was a teenager in the years he played for us, I had a Gwladys Street season ticket and he was my hero. Recently met him at a book signing. He didn't disappoint, charming and lovely in spite of this middle aged woman who had lost the power of speech and looking like a stranded goldfish standing in front of him.

What a guy!

I've told this story before but I remember waiting outside the players entrance on Goodison Road as a 6 or 7 year old kid. This was around '78. I was with my auntie and I think we had drew with Man.City 2-2. I was standing there with my match program getting autographs and Big Bob walks out. My auntie nudges, well pushes me towards Bob. So there I am, stood there looking up at Big Bob in his big sheepskin coat grinning and the first thing I said to him was 'My mum fancies you'. He burst out laughing and replied 'Where is your mum now?'. Happy days.

Bob Latchford and Dave Thomas were like a couple who won Mr and Mrs. Fantastic combination. As others have mentioned the game against Chelsea was a memorable one. It's a great feeling walking away from GP with a permanent smile. Hopefully soon to be a permanent effect.

Come on mate, not quite every opportunity.....just quite a lot!!!

He had a lot of hearts to win over because Howard went the other way and he was adored, plus it put Royles position in doubt so it was a slightly Luke warm reception. Not that bothered to run around pointlessly, came to life in the box, especially for crosses and headers. Brilliant at finding that yard of space for such a big guy.
Hero worthy of the title.
