Part of me wants to keep it in house...

Taking on somebody in house and giving them a massive transfer budget is a gamble. I don't think we can afford to gamble at this stage. We need someone with a proven track record. We don't need to set the world on fire immediately. We can take take on somebody like Pellegrini to get us over the next year or so. I voted for Mourinho but I have some reservations on the way he just throws money at things. I want Everton to be successful but I don't want us just to be a vehicle for a manager to accrue more plaudits. I want Everton to remain Everton and win the Champions League.

Unsy the head man, with Big Dunc and Sheeds his coaches. Everton through and through. Youth would still be served. My biggest fear of bringing in a big name outsider, is we throw away everything we've done with the academy.

Ok now go ahead and tell me I'm crazy and an idiot.
You are crazy and an idiot

The plus about Unsy is that he's the " anti Martinez" , talks straight as it is, sets up his team's well defensively and gets them all playing well together. He's done well with the U 21s but apart from his obvious inexperience I think he lacks some attacking nous. Great defensively though. We need to make sure we don't lose him or somehow demote him if a new management team come in. He's the obvious one to link the U 21s to the 1st team which we've missed his season

If I were running Everton I'd do the following:

Set up a structure which is Everton - this would encompass youth training, sports science, medicine, analytics, scouting, recruitment. This would be staffed by Evertonians with the best training/internships you can get so that best practice could be bought in from around the world.

When a new first team coach was appointed they would simply bring in themselves and 5-10 others who would deal with the first team. Training, tactics and motivation would be their remit.

My worry was that after Moyes left we lost a lot of infrastructure that he'd set up. Our old analytics department was regarded as the best in the business but they are now all at Man City. Some of the academy staff are now at United as are some of our scouts with one at Chelsea.

For all the talk of Moyes "neglecting" the academy he appointed trusted people and let them get on with it. A first team coach should focus on the first team. Everton should be Everton regardless of who the manager is.

Nice idea, but not practical mate. Also they appear to be doing good jobs in their current roles so let's leave them to it. As I say, nice thought though. We need to aim higher, as much as I'd love Duncan as manager.

Got told btw that Moyes used to have absolutely rock all to do with the academy lads as well btw.
Heard the same a long while ago.

Ossie just found out he can't have the job

Heard the same a long while ago.

There were 2 lads near me, 1 at the end of our street that was u14/15 at time, his mum said that she'd never seen him at the a game or anything, in contrast to that she said Roberto was involved from day 1 & spoke to the parents even whereas Moyes had never done that even once.

It irks me when I hear on Radio etc that Moyes brings through youngsters, because in his time he hardly ever did, Yes he gave some of them debuts but not that many tbh and something that stands out for me was Jack Rodwell played a game against blackburn & was superb, then he didn't play again for a while & when he reappeared it was as if his coaching in between had consisted of wherever you get the ball you pass to Phil Neville and it took all his drive & creativeness from the Blackburn match away from him. He didn't seem to have any faith in Ross, Warnock get's slated over when he had him on loan & I think sent him back but he says that Moyes said Do not give this lad any responsibility whatsoever. Coleman, it was like shackles had been removed as soon as Moyes left & he was skinning folk left right & centre doing what Baines was doing on the other side.

won stuff; Catterick, Kendall, Royle, won the only stuff we ever won...played for the Club, sometimes very well...but all had previous managerial experience

didn't win stuff; Bingham, Kendall II & III

Outsiders; Lee, Walker, Smith, Moyes, Martinez...

best of a bad bunch Moyes, Lee, Smith.

total gash; Walker Martinez.

You can find a case for both
On the surface you would go with the Club men with some previous experience, which Unsworth hasn't got.
suppose you have to apply the Dirty Harry Rule...do ya feel lucky

Under different circumstances I would take Unsworth, not saying we could do better coz we'll never know, but I think we owe it to ourselves to go as 'up market' as we can - while we can...if it all goes pear shaped, there's a Plan B.
