Why there is a demand for change and the reasons to be optimistic for the future

Martinez is a nice guy. There's no doubt if that but fine words butter no parsnips. Except for Bill and his Lovies Act. Taken in by Roberto's undoubted charm. So a ruthless owner will want a ruthless manager. One that gets results and that (except for Claudio) involves giving the players the stick before the carrot - perhaps our 2016 vintage of Donkeys will put a shift in next year.

For me, I want Everton to win always - even in the deadest of dead rubbers. I even used to get het up at friendlies on occasion.

The city game a few years ago, I'm sure some wanted us to lose, but personally I wanted us to win and I know from speaking to people at the time both here and in the real actual world, that wanting us to get beat was the minority view but existed all the same.

I went into that game with no real care either way.

Our season was over but fifth was a formality.

When Barkley scored it was great. But I didn't shed a tear over losing that game (metaphorically speaking, of course)

To keep 100% postive on this thread.

The other thing i am massively looking forward to is seeing potentially better players pulling on the blue shirt than we have seen for a long time as well.

For every good player we have had over time, they have been limited in some way, arteta/cahill/piennar to name a few. Granted i highly rate baines/rom in the current team but generally we are used to seeing decent or potentially great players play for us.

Be nice to see a higher calibre of players on the pitch and take good football that we can be used to, and turn it even better. No more alan smith/scott dann/wigan players dreading turning up!

Under Moshiri I don't expect Everton to go on and appoint a manager and win the league in the first season. What I do expect is targets and for me that is to win the league, doesn't mean you're going to win it. But that is what you aim for, year in year out.

I don't think we have to spend a fortune to achieve it either. With the TV revenue, Moshiri's wealth becomes less important anyway. Still important but not as important as previously.

What we desperately need however is an evaluation of the staff at Everton, starting with the manager. Whoever it is, has to be the very best we can hire. It's literally cometh the hour time for Everton.

Limited in some way they may have been, but if we'd had a squad full of those 'limited' players who were undeniably passionate, hard working and gave 100% every time they went out onto the pitch, we'd of been winning the league just like Leicester have done. There's very few players in their squad who you wouldn't describe as limited in some way.

Do I want us to sign a better calibre of player? Well yes, of course. But do I want a bloke like Yaya Toure who will coast round the pitch for 85 minutes or do I want someone technically a bit worse who has the fight and determination of a Naismith? No contest for me. We've already got enough players who coast through games, pick and choose when they turn up and don't track back (looking at you Ross, Rom, Del), we need some players who will run themselves into the ground again first and foremost.

There aren't players who run themselves into the ground. It has to be a team effort. No way does anyone go to work and think "I'm putting in a shift while everyone else lounges about." Sooner or later they do the same.

It's a very fair point you make that the competitive environment is just going to get even more competitive over the summer for sure.

If I said I was privy to certain things not in the public domain then that should answer your final point ;)

In Esk we trust

Of course! main reason being there will be 7-8 other clubs with similar and better resources available, plus the better players will still favour a move to a club that can offer them european football, then add location into the mix and we still will have to try and unearth some diamonds as Leicester have in Kante and Mahrez.

I just clicked onto this thread via the Forums page where the thread which had the last post read 'Why there is a demand for chang'

I must admit I was disappointed when it came up, me being interested in anything to do with beer.

You mean the leiscter model? lol Well can't say that isn't a good thing now days so can't argue against that.

what i mean is Arteta was a key player for us, yet he wasn't the next level player that silva is. Pienaars strengths made up for weaknesses. cahill was a brilliant fighter and header of the ball but in that role he didn't link the midfield and attack up as much as you would expect that role to do (he made up in other areas for that).

Just generally, take McCarthy, imagine him but better? Imagine Robles, but better. Having a quality alternative to work with Ross, Have a striker as back up who can come on and score goals when Lukaku isnt? these players i'm mentioning aren't bad players by any means, but generally it would be nice to have these things in the team. 75 minutes vs united, bring a striker on who is different and can cause more problems, replace ross with someone else who can do the job.

I believe yes, we will be signing the right players for the club in the future, yaya is a rare player who thinks he is bigger than his club. And some we will sign may run the risk of falling into that category, hindsight will be a wonderful thing. But generally if McCarthy is the level we are used to for a player, i want to see much better instead.

To right;
I flew all the way from Brisbane for those last 3 games, well actually at first just Mrs D was going to see her mother but the tickets were bargain basement so I thought for that price I could go as well. But I didn't want to lose even at those prices - just on principle

Don't mean to put a dampener on the atmos, but I won't be kidded by new manager syndrome. Nor am I convinced we'll have a glut of marquee/big money signings (Which I don't think we need more than two, meself...IF we can keep the current squad together)

Consistency at a highly competitive level must be maintained from now on.

I'm not quite at the davek level of 'If the new manager doesn't get top 4 by 'x' then he's out', but we need to see improvement in the first season (Which on the face of it doesn't appear to be that difficult) followed by no less than a reflection that in the second season, with honours or a CL spot by the end of season 3.

I won't accept a replication of this season (or last) as being 'acceptable'. Let's see what moshiri's influence can do for us.

nothing has changed, in fact we have gone backwards, that is based on what we see before us on and off the pitch, you base your optimism on what exactly? a few optimistic posts from a forum moderator. laughable!

Ermmm...

If you'd bothered to look, you'd have seen that my reply to you was the first post I'd made in the thread at that point.

Didn't mention owt about optimism. Didn't make mention of anything, because until I seen your sanctimonious and unjustly dismissive post, I didn't have a lot to say.

You come across as so far up yer own 'arris that you're almost coming out the other side - and expecting a ticker-tape parade when you do.
