Been offered a new job which pays pretty well and requires me to only work 37.5 hours a week.

In the contract it does not state whether this 37.5 hours a week includes a lunch break or not... in-fact it mentions nothing about lunch breaks.

Is it standard for lunch breaks to be included in the total hours ones need to work per week or is it more likely to not include them ?

Been self employed for most of my life so never really had to deal with this stuff before apart from in my last job where it was all spelled out for me in the contract so there could be no confusion.

What time do you start and finish?

37.5 hours a week is 7.5 hours a day, you will probably get 2x15minute breaks, if your lucky and an hours lunch.

8.30 - 5.00

Always assumed the stated hours on a contract did not include, but allowed for, an hour's lunch.

8.45 - 5.15 usually, sometimes can be there til 6 but I avoid that at all costs. Too many people still bound by the dated concept of 'face time' and stick around much later than they need to.

......I don't think your 37.5 hours will include a lunch break. In public service the norm is 37 hours per week which breaks down to 7hrs 24mins per day. Lunch break of at least 30mins has to be taken but not included in your 7hrs 24min total.

Like others, I can't remember when I last took a lunch break but that's only because of the job I do.
