Muhamed Besic

I don't play FIFA mate, I am in my 40's, have been around football all my life and can tell you for sure, that some of the ability and drive that he showed in January lifted the side completely.

Stop stereotyping people, it doesnt work.

Also, don't think Peter Reid was much of a muscleman when he played for Kendall.

I apologise. No slight intended but if you're in your 40s then you've seen Everton at their very best. Marching across the land and Europe as all-conquering heroes. As Besic is still just a little pup hanging on to the coattails of perhaps a 1,000 Blues higher in the pecking order. To even attempt to lionise the lad at this stage is a leap too far. That propensity to over-dramatise things seems common amongst the young fan born on Fifa computer games.

For not being able to see how good Barry has been this year and for thinking he is keeping Besic out of the team. Besic has had recurring injuries all season, not exactly being benched behind Barry you divvy.

Why have you got a bee in your bonnet because someone's got a different view than you? Besic was on the bench for long periods last season and has been this season even when fit. When he has played its if there's an injury, he's in a three, or on the left wing. If Barry and McCarthy are both fit he doesn't play in his best position. I think that's wrong and have explained why in a rational manner. You on the other hand have called me a 'divvy'. Why are you finding it difficult to articulate an argument without resorting to insults?

You have a fair point on last season but not for this one.

Besic has only been on bench 5 times - first three were at start of season after he'd missed most of preseason with a hamstring so was catching up with the rest of the squad. Given he re-injured his hamstring 9 minutes after his first start it is quite probable he wasn't fit to play anyhow.

Another was Leicester after his 3 month layoff from that hamstring, again unlikely to have been fully fit, and then Stoke after his first sub appearance vs Newcastle two days previously so understandable that they didn't want to push him too hard too soon.

When has Besic played left wing?

Started there v Chelsea before having to come off for Naismith. If a player isn't fit he shouldn't be on the bench. Do you think Martinez selects Besic in the midfield pairing if both Barry and McCarthy are fit? Past behaviour would suggest not.

Did you ever watch Barry Horne in the flesh lad?

No but highly irrelevant saying a modern player isn't currently at the level of a select older player especially considering Horne was already a player with a lot of experience before he went to Everton. How a player of Besic's experience in the league is meant to be his equal is beyond confusing. I'm sure you just log on here to annoy people with your nonsensical drivel.

Given he was only on for 9 mins tbh found it hard to tell where Besic was meant to be playing - according to the position stats it was as a forward!

Are you are seriously using that single match as a basis for complaining he's played on the left wing?

As for the "if not fit he shouldn't be on the bench", there are plenty of players that might be OK for 10 mins at the end of match but not for say 70, would you not have them on the bench until they were fit enough to last a full 90?

Besic was positionally weak last season, he's admitted as much himself, so can understand why he might not have been selected as frequently. He has made significant strides in that area so, whilst I think Barry/McCarthy might have been selected for some matches over him if fit, don't think it would have been as clear cut, especially given the mileage that Barry has put in.

Neither Besic nor McCarthy possess the positional play or distribution required to play the role Barry does. I hate the word, but I think the Spanish teams refer to it as the "Pivot". His job is to dictate the pace of the game. I don't quite see how there can be an argument that Barry doesn't do this and doesn't do it well. We need someone like him who is happy to sit and dictate, whilst picking up the second balls. Busquets is the best player in the world at this and covers modest ground in comparison to the Box to Box players.

McCarthy and Besic are animals. Shackling them and their agility would render them redundant imo as neither have the nouse to know when to quicken the game and when to slow it. They may develop this trait but we are discussing the here and now.

Barry, obviously not in the same league of Busquets, needs legs next to him. That's why when Besic and McCarthy are storming around next to him he can focus on his game.

When he retires or leaves, the role doesn't change. We need the anchor to dictate the teams shape and the speed of play. It will forever be McCarthy or Besic with someone next to them I reckon, or perhaps a 3, and its completely understandable

What's age got to do with it? I'm on about basic quality. Many of the little man's fans are saying he should play ahead of Barry, Gibson and Osman already.

My point is Barry Horne was many times better than Besic in his day - but you'd didn't get a fanboy following for old Mr Horne so why do we have one for Mo Besci?

I blame the parents.

Because when someone's opinion is so wrong, they need to be made aware of it. Besic has never ever played left wing for us, you literally just made that up. Besic was signed from the Hungarian division last season, was raw and poor on his first few appearances which is why it was completely understandable that he didn't start every game. He still made 20+ appearances.

Besic missed 11 games through injury after the Chelsea game, made the bench the next two and started the one after. Isn't that what you would expect? Easing him back into action. Same with start of season, got injured pre-season made the bench a couple of weeks, first start gets injured. These are facts.

I would understand what youre saying if a) Barry hadn't been our best and most consistent midfielder all season and b) if Besic had been benched when 100% fit behind Barry.
