Butland isn't on De Gea's level mate, not even close. A keeper of De Gea's quality would have won us about 15 more points this season. A competent Premier League keeper would have got us 6-10 more points easily
Howard is a competent Premier League keeper. He's not good enough for where we want the club to be, but he's right about the same level as the majority of Premier League keepers. That's what the Howard abusers really don't seem to understand. Dropping some random goalkeeper (Myhill or Stekelenburg or Guzan, say) from another club into our team wouldn't have improved us this season. There is a really big drop off from the best goalkeepers in the league right now to everyone else, and Howard is square in the middle of "everyone else". The sooner people get this and stop clamoring for mediocrities like David Marshall or Asmir Begovic or Costel Pantilimon to replace him, the better. We have someone at that level at the club to replace him right now. I don't think Robles would make that big of a difference, but he's at least got room to improve and some potential resale value, so by all means play him and showcase him until the end of the season. That would be great.

In the meantime, the club should be looking to find a goalkeeper with top class potential to take us forward.

Sorry mate. Howard's proven over the last 3 or 4 years that he's actually below average. He's abysmal. Average goalkeepers aren't capable of making outstanding ridiculous saves like De Gea and Cech are, but they also keep their costly mistakes to a minimum, hence why they're "average". Howard doesn't make any outstanding saves ever, and the amount of costly mistakes he makes is insane, at no other club would he still be first choice keeper. Norwich dropped Ruddy for being as bad as Howard, and now their 2nd choice is doing well. Why we can't do the same with Joel and the starfish clown is baffling

To be fair to robles, when he first joined he couldn't catch a ball! He is developing quite well, who knows if first team quality? But at least in every game he has played, i can't think of one major thing he has done wrong so far.

You're really giving average goalkeepers way too much credit. If Howard truly were the worst goalkeeper in the league, we'd be at the bottom of the league in goals conceded by a big margin (not just the lower half), because our defending certainly doesn't help him out. Norwich dropped Ruddy for being far worse than Howard.

Howards one of the worst in the league for errors from crosses and as of December we had conceded most headers inside of our 6 yard area, thats the keepers zone. No command, no organization, no communication.

We have conceded 29 goals, that's more than any team bar the bottom 3 and Swansea and Norwich. We have scored 36 goals, that's more than Man Utd, Tottenham, Liverpool, Arsenal, and every other team above us bar Leicester and Man City. So actually yes, the reason we're 11th and not 5th knocking on the door of the top 4, is because we concede so many goals. A contributing factor is the fact that our goalkeeper hasn't saved a shot on target in the last 3 home games

De Bruyne scores on Wednesday if Howard was in goal in the League Cup game. Simple.

And Aguero probably scores before half time to put them 1-0 up. Completely different tie from that point. For anyone throwing vague stats at us to back Howard up, these are the margins we're dealing with

To busy to check now, but it would be interesting to see how many goals Robles has conceded in the league games he has played.

6 conceded in 9 with 3 being against newcastle and 3 clean sheets in his last 3 prem games last season.

Newcastle game aside were we had the likes of kone at ST, eto'o in AM, distin, alcaraz and garbutt starting and throw in Baines played a mix of LW and DM that match which is no surprise we lost, his overall record would be 3 conceded in 8 which is impressive for any GK, particularly 1 who was thrown in those games mid season due to injuries.
