McGeady is a cert to go perhaps loan move, If Norwich come knocking for Naisy again I'm sure it will be considered. But Martinez was having none of it in Summer not sure how he will react this time.

Very hard to do business in January, probably better selling players actually than buying. Teams panic buy and pay inflated prices.

We all know Stones will go sooner or later but the way Chelsea handled the whole thing stunk. Similar to the season before with Utd over Baines and Fellaini. Derogatory bid for the pair of them made public to unsettle. We ended up getting more for Fellaini than the combined original bid. I can't remember anyone complaining at Fellaini being taken. £28 mil was snatched from their hands

i don't think chelsea's bid was even close to being comparable to united's double bid. They offered a fair amount of money to be honest and were probably thinking we'd sell at that price. Most other fans didn't even know who he was at the time, The handled the situation poorly whereas united's double bid was for arguably our two best players from our former manager.

.... i've just re-read your post and realised i read it wrong ha.

i don't think we'll end up with yarmolenko at all now, to be honest. He's at a club in a better position, let's be honest and he will surely get better offers next summer.

Yarmolenko came out to the Ukrainian media after the match today and said he'd be leaving Kiev this January if the right price was paid to the Kiev board (He's valued at around £20m and his wages are about £60k a week at Kiev). He wants a move to a Premier League club.

So yeah. He's going to Liverpool along with Konoplyanka who Martinez could've swooped for this summer on a free.

You mean the guy who's only just gone to champions league sevilla?

People don't understand the need for depth at all. They seem to figure we can sell all our backups for small fees and buy one top signing which is naive and ridiculous.
Especially when Man Utd have done pretty much what some on here are clamouring for - sold all their experienced backups and spent the money on a few expensive young players putting them under huge pressure to perform, with academy kids thrown in at the deep end when injuries occur.

Might work in the long term but lot of ugly football and dubious results in the short term.

totally, and yet every time i play a football game as everton that's exactly what i do! what the hell am i going to do with the 300k a get from selling my backup right back?!

the signing on fee, agent fee and wages came to something lke 20mil, didnt it?
Yes, rumoured to have been lots of strings to his deal that several clubs looked at and decided was too complicated.
He also doesn't seem to rate the premier league..

“If I was two-and-a-half metres tall and didn’t know how to control a ball then I may have gone to England, but here [in Spain], the football’s more technical. It’s the best,” he said.

2 players for each position:

GK - Robles
LB - Baines / Garbutt
LCB - Jagielka / Mori / Galloway
RCB - Stones / Browning / Holgate
RB - Coleman
DM - Barry / Besic
CM - McCarthy / Cleverley
AM - Barkley
LW - Kone
RW - Deulofeu / Lennon
CF - Lukaku

This is what things "should" look like by the summer with new signings added on top, as most posts on here recognise we need to improve the squad in the following areas;

GK
RB
Playmaker
LW
Forward

This means that these players could be moved on:

Howard -
Hibbert - Contract expiring
Oviedo - Contract expiring
Gibson
Osman - Contract expiring
Pienaar - Contract expiring
McAleny
McGeady
Mirallas
Naismith

We supposedly had money for Yarmolenko and through selling 'some' players in Jan should have a decent pot which we can use to sign 2 players and possibly a loan.

In the summer we should get in a new keeper and another player and a loan.

That would mean 10 players out and 5 players in over 2 windows. Better to have 5 players who can make the first team than 10 who wouldnt get a game but take home decent wages...

Yes two players at LB really worked out for us this season didn't it?

We are not doing any business this window, so I don't know why you are posting like we will make some sort of major overhaul.

Looks like the scout at Zenit vs Gent was watching Laurent Depoitre. He's a 27 year old forward who has just won his first cap for Belgium in October.

He's rejected a new contract and is available for £14mil. There were a lot of scouts at the game but i cant see us going for him as he seems to only have done well this season.

Even if it we where going to do business we wouldn't be sending out 10 players. A squad can't thrive with that level of turnover. Look how long it is taking Juventus to get going this season. We'd set ourselves back so far doing that
