I like being critical of our keeper when he makes errors but last night he can't really be blamed for the goals. Yes he may feel himself he could have done things differently for both goals but in all honesty he was stuffed by bad defending on both and had he made a save on either he'd have been a hero. Weren't mistakes by him, he was stitched up by others.

You say it as if it's a concious decision he makes not to stop the ball but to do a star jump instead. The reason he'll be doing the star jump is that he'll be trying to make himself as big as possible cover as goal as he can. Statistically this is probably a better tactic than trying to decide where the shot is going and filling that gap as Strikers these days aren't as predictable as they used to be.Wish he'd stop doing those star jumps when letting the ball past him. I'm sure there'd be way less fume if he just looked a little less incompetent when allowing goals.
It could also be that his main problem isn't actually the 'Goalkeeping' aspect but reading the attackers intentions in which case again, the star jumps is probably the best way of trying to cover as many options as possible. Perhaps a few sessions with a body language expert might help him be more confident when reading a striker?
He was a bit shaky last night on occasions crosses mainly a bit of flapping - nothing much to save, the fact is our defence as explained in my previous post a new set up - his distribution in the first half was shaky but got better when Mori had a better 2nd half - West Brom were gifted one goal , and the dreaded corner hit us again bad marking for that one not TH fault!

TH is in the twilight years of his career - he has been better this season though! frustrates most fans on here last season should have had a spell out imo!

As the overall quality of the squad, and the starting eleven slowly improves, Howard is increasingly looking like the weakest link.
He didn't really do much wrong last night, and some of the criticism he gets is unjustified, but he's a pretty average keeper who's not going to improve, so the focus on improving the squad will naturally turn on him.
