John Stones transfer saga

No he won't. He seems a decent lad, he'll put his head down and play for a move to Barca next year.
I am thinking it might be three or four years before that but Martinez should be telling him that is where real ambition could take him. play his heart out for us in the meantime, learn what he needs to be the complete defender and I'd be happy for him to get that kind of move, and Blues get a few more trained by their academy

He's still on, he's basically been saying that he won't develop at Everton, he needs to work with Mourinho to improve his defending, Martinez is a poor manager to coach him on defending...that kind of stuff,

Thing is that is true about Martinez and defending, its something a lot of us have all been saying for two seasons now, not that it means it would be for the best for Stones to go and there are plenty of neutrals saying its best he stays.
What is best for Everton is what counts for us, he only cares about what is best for Chelsea, but regardless, Martinez is a poor manager where defending is concerned.

Speaking after the Blues' 5-3 Capital One Cup second round win at Barnsley, Martinez confirmed the club had received a formal request from the 21-year-old, who is keen to push through a move to Chelsea.

Stones' request is yet to be officially rejected, but Martinez says the matter will be dealt with “in the morning” as he called on the footballing authorities to do more to protect players from becoming unsettled by transfer approaches.

Asked if Stones' request had been rejected, Martinez said: “Not yet. Today was a match day and that's a priority. We will reject it in the morning and get on with our business.”

Martinez insisted that chairman Bill Kenwright would not be forced into doing business with Chelsea despite reports of a fourth bid, which could be worth as much as £40m.

“The situation with John is very clear,” he said. “We care about him, we will protect him and give him everything we can to allow him to enjoy his football. During this tough period, we are going to be there for him.

“We have great ambition, great desire and great plans for

“We shouldn't put our players under that massive pressure, where it becomes a bit of a circus.

I had no doubts about selecting John tonight, not at all. But it's an example for the football authorities. They have to do something about it.

“We're going up and down the country and every dressing room has the same situation.

“What do we end up with? We allow players to feel bad about themselves, not to be proud of representing their colours? It becomes unsustainable, and it needs to be changed.

“Players are human, and human beings deserve the time to think about the next step in their careers. But that can not happen when there are official games, big games, chances to go to Wembley.”

On the pitch, at least, Martinez had reason to smile; Everton fought back from a 2-0 half-time deficit to win 5-3 after extra time, and will now travel to Reading in round three next month.

I am thinking it might be three or four years

It won't be. Stones has another year left with us, two at the most. Chelsea's willingness to part with 40 million will be like a beacon to a lot of other big clubs. Let's not kid ourselves, we can make him stay because there's a few years left on his contract, he won't be signing any new ones.

Cundy "stones needs to follow Sterlings example and force his way out of Everton"

Fair to say he's rattled:) quite enjoying his desperation now.

Martinez is boss. Stones is boss. He played well tonight imo (I didn't see the first half) which is impressive considering everything that's been going on.

Koff Chelsea.

We still need investment though so let's not let Bill off the hook here because Martinez has come out firing. If Stones stays we still need a few in.

Correct. Even with this John stones circus no one should lose sight of the fact that we need at least 1 experienced proven PL centre back and probably one more of a gamble centre back as cover. We still need a striker to cover Rom if he gets injured. And we probably need a new goalkeeper

After his comments tonight, which in fairness is a massive statement of intent going forward; if he is still sold now after those comments, you would have to believe that Martinez could resign. Listening to his comments and watching his facial expression tells you all you need to know about how Martinez views this whole saga. If he is still sold, it would obviously suggest that its been done behind his back. The domino effect this would create would be brutal. I truly hope those excellent words from Martinez tonight have have been spoken because everyone at Everton is 100% behind it.

Haha at the Chelsea melts reading this forum.

What a manager we have on our hands.

The thing that they need to understand is that they are a small club with a rich owner.

We are a huge club with massive heritage, history and achievemnt that they can only dream of. We might not have the sugar daddy at the moment (these things change though) but we have a certain level of class and dignity that you cannot just buy.
