John Stones transfer saga

There's a big difference in play now: we cajoled players to leave (to further their 'ambitions') in the past to settle interest repayments; now that's taken care of with the extra tv revenue. The compulsion for players to leave now isn't there. Stones can easily stay on, he's not being forced out behind the scenes.

Rooney
Lescott
Arteta
etc

...no comparison.

I wasn't comparing this situation to those mate, I agree, they are very different.

edit : When I was talking about our best players I was thinking of our current best players rather than those who have already left.

Stones is at fault for the timing of this, but the board are also at fault for having a business plan which increases the chance of this type of situation happening.

Putting aside the extra wages which Chelsea will be offering, he's likely to have more significantly opportunities to play at a very high level with Chelsea ( Champions League ) than he is at Everton. The risk for him is that he's not guaranteed to be first pick at Chelsea.

Should have already been a statement.. Ffs Everton show some balls and control this

Or maybe by saying nowt the club is controlling it?

Right now it is Stones and his agent who are not controlling it.

They can do nothing until a request is accepted.

Nor are Chelsea......they must be a wee but edgy that now the agent had jet the cat out the bag Old Trafford's very own and ego bruised @The Equaliser will seek revenge for the Pedro gazump.

Our silence has them all unnerved.

You know what.....I suddenly feel a lot better ;)

Said with such confidence. It's almost as if you were in the room with Bill and John when that conversation happened. Uncanny...

Ha ha not Kenwright and Woods but Bill & John. Carry on sniping at people that dare say anything against 'Bill & John' because its becoming entertaining and apparent why they are still getting away with making this club smaller and smaller. The longest period in our History without a trophy and 'Bill & John' are still defended vehemently. Smell the Roses

I still think selling him could prove to be a good thing. IF and it's a very big IF, the money is spent wisely.

The reason being is that as classy and composed as he is he just doesn't make me feel like we will keep a clean sheet when I see his name on the teamsheet. Especially not like the Baines Lescott Jags Neville back four used to. Now of course that isn't all on him as he is a promising young centre back and a defence needs to work as a unit. However I have never been convinced by Stones and Jagielka as a partnership and as a result I feel it weakens our back four. I don't know if Matinez is the right man to sort it, but I don't believe that because Stones leaves we will start conceding more goals every game.

I hope you're right...I really do

The weapon that is Mike " Porky " Parry was on Talksport earlier with Brazil talking about this. Parry stated that his understanding was that Stones had a meeting with Martinez ten days ago to say he wanted to go. Martinez said No. He was quite clear about the the ten days bit and that Stones hadn't actually handed in a writted transfer request, merely told Martinez verbally that he wanted to go. I know Parry is a massive knob, but he gave the impression that this was fact . Read into that what you will, but if this was the case it would be sensible to assume that Martinez would make the board aware and replacement targets would be discussed just in case he went formal with his request - unless the club just aren't going to sell him no matter what ?,

Like many others have said, the club needs to issue a statement and explain what's going on.

By the way, the fact we're still waiting for a statement on this is the latest in a long line of disgraces for 'our' club.

Someone said before that they 'hope' Martinez has something to say tonight - it speaks volumes that we're just hoping we hear something about a transfer request from a key player within the span of 24 whole hours.

I'm not a Board apologist and I detest this situation. But as far as I can tell this whole 'Stones has submitted a transfer request' thing has evolved 'according to Sky sources'. No one - Everton, player, players agent, Chelsea has come out and confirmed it. Every other media outlet has picked this up as fact. Has anyone ACTUALLY established it as fact.

The BBC have reported it as fact - the odds on it not being the case at this point are non-existent.

Phew......I was out last night and had 150 pages to catch up on with this thread.

Thankfully I am now up to date and can go see what else is happening on GOT, my window on the world :)

Are the stock markets still in free fall?

Which is exactly why the club need to say something one way or another mate !

After sleeping on it..I think he stays.

My real concern is the reaction he gets because there are some very unhappy blues knocking round at the minute.

The silence from Everton lends it some credence....I think

He must have though otherwise the club would have to deny it to enable him to play tonight.
