John Stones transfer saga

Martinez could walk in and say "give me one more year and then we'll sell you" and I'm pretty sure Stones, being the professional he is, would get his head down and get on with it

That's what I'm hoping happens. Then, we'll have the Stones money up front in time for next years summer window. Sell him as soon as the window opens next season and then re-build

Martinez could say that... the board wouldn't allow it.

I dont think for a minute that Stones is the type of lad to rock the boat, he has looked happy as pie the last few games and from what i have heard he is seriously professional.

I quote Charlie Adam (i know thats vile) this morning "its a shame but it happens because clubs want to put pressure on the player to hand in a transfer request instead of looking bad to the fans when they have accepted a bid"

The club has forced this move, the more i read into it the more i think it.

Martinez should walk in today and say Listen John, what you did was disrespectfully to this great club, so he is what happens now. You will not be sold for any price and now you will play for the reserves till next season
Don't think we have the option of him not being in the first team !
Either he stays and plays or we cash in .....

Well there is a reason mate

They were misleading us about Stones going so they could hike up the price for his eventual sale

Stones has got his head down and played to his fullest during all of this. Should the rumours be true, the heat should be on the board and not him. He's making a decision for his career and nothing more

Do you have any proof about this? We haven't accepted a bid have we? So they have not mislead anybody.

Things change once a transfer request goes in. To blame the board for standing up to Chelsea until the player forced the issue is madness.

Those determined to blame the board for John Stone's personal decisions will continue to do so, whether the request is accepted or rejected.

If they accept it, it was orchestrated all along. Because, y'know, why wouldn't the player want to needlessly turn himself into the bad guy and lose out on a loyalty bonus, just to help out Bill?

If they reject it, it was still orchestrated all along. This time, Stones becomes the bad guy just to make Bill look like a strong, heroic chairman.

Either way, it requires you to believe that Stones would pointlessly throw himself under the bus to help out the board.

1. He probably will be given it. Martinez has been backed so far.
In what way has martinez been backed?

In his first summer, he signed kone for 5, alcaraz free, robles nominal, del loan, and didnt sign anyone else until.......He sold Fellaini.

Second summer, lukaku- installments deal (fair enough), besic, couple of million, barry free, galloway youth, henan youth and then..................nothing else.

Third summer, cleverly free, delefeu 4 million (expensive loan deal potentially) holgate 1 million, and then...............nothing until we sell stones

We are doing the opposite of backing martinez mate, we are actually making very limited funds available unless he sells his spine of the team.

I am leaning to agreeing with you

A frustrating and upsetting few days are in store for all us Evertonians I fear

Have you got any proof they didn't?

I think you're being a tad naive if you think the board telling Stones to put in a transfer request so they can cash in on him while deflecting some of the heat from themselves is beyond them
