John Stones transfer saga

After some time to think about it, I have to say if we sell him for 40 million and get good replacements in, we probably will end up with a better squad. Yarmolenko, Van Dijk, Funes Mori and one more attacking player. Also get rid of a player who apparently doesn't want to be here. Hard to argue that it wouldn't benefit the team.

The problem I have is that first, I have zero trust in the board to bring in those players. Second, we will once again have a negative net spend, or a marginally positive one even if we buy all those replacements. But because it might be good business people will forget about it and the TV money disappears somewhere as usual. Also, this all makes us look very weak. There is no doubt Lukaku will want away next year.

On the subject of negative net spend... this doesn't really reflect the equity in the sake of the likes of Fellaini, Rodwell and potentially Stones. Whilst not wanting to side with the Board, in fairness their strategy of buying young, selling expensive has paid off in the past. Let's face it...we would never have been able to afford £28m for Lukaku if we didn't make such a mark up on Fellaini (plus Rodwell and Anichebe). It's hard to take as a fan because it reinforces the feeling of a 'feeder' club but what would the alternative look like...?

we are all everton fans through and through, we would all dream to play at goodison in royal blue and are blindly loyal to our club. John Stones isn't an evertonian but a young footballer who has had a meteoric rise in his footballing career over the past 2 years. I think he is an exceptional talent, probably the best young player I've seen at everton in 30 years. I hate the fact that we can't keep him, i would love to have him here for longer but sadly Chelsea are a bigger pull for a 21 year old footballer. He now has a chance of competing for trophies and being in the spotlight of champions league football.

My fear for him as a player is he still makes lots of naive mistakes and this will be highlighted and magnified by playing at a top four club. However for a lad who rocked up at finch farm on january deadline day of 2013 in a dodgy woolen jumper and run of the mill car he looked more like he was coming for an interview to drive our flashy new blue tractors. I can't blame him for having his head turned. The chance of playing with Hazard, Pedro and Fabregas and walking out at Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich is not something your average footballer would turn down.

Personally i think the club has been waiting for this outcome and sadly i do expect jonny evans to come in as soon as he goes. For us it will feel like another nail in the coffin and proof that you get nowhere in the premier league unless you chuck 100's of millions at it.

Pretty sure EFC have spoken with Stones about this since the 1st bid....and Martinez would have told him he wants him to stay
...
What did you want the board to do, accept Chelsea's first bid?....we've been playing hard ball, hoping either Chelsea offer crazy money (like man city did with Sterling), or Stones was happy to stay for a few years (when we know he'll most likely be worth more than 30m....certainly more than Chelsea's first 3 bids which have all been less than what United paid for Shaw, and considerably less than what Chelsea sold Luiz for).....

I can fault the board for a lot of things....but not this.....Chelsea tactics here have been disgraceful!.....they used the media to tap up our player In a way I've never seen before (even having Chelsea players been given TV time to tell Stones to come to their club)....Chelsea also decided to make the first bid public, knowing full well this would start a media circus.
Man City started negotiating for Sterling 2 months ago....and paid Liverpool's asking price (over paid).....Chelsea have deliberately waited till late on hoping to back us into a corner, and accept a lesser fee than they know Stones is worth...
Thankfully our board has stood up to Chelsea so far....which is why Chelsea have clearly asked Stones to hand in a transfer request to force the move.....
For me the transfer request changes nothing....our selling price should remain the same, and if Chelsea don't meet that then stones is going nowhere.
Liverpool held strong on Suarez when Arsenal triggered his release clause (and Suarez begged to leave).....Suarez stayed, had his best season at Liverpool, and got a bigger move.....Stones will be professional and will play on if this move doesn't happen (he still has alot to play for)....
Totally agree!!

Supporting Chelsea must be like playing Football Manager with 'sugar daddy' turned on. It's great to win something every now and then but there is always the nagging feeling that every single good thing that happens to the club has been bought with dirty money. A soulless asterisk attached to everything. Easy to shrug off for the ignorant, but anyone with any sense of morality of self-awareness will have that feeling eating away at them on a daily basis, painfully aware that it's not sustainable and that everything they pretend to believe in, isn't real.
Wow all that for stones coming to the bridge....nothing on Lukaku then? You're having an laugh if u believe that nonsense

34m but Martinez does not want to sell - relations will Chelsea have hit a real low complicating their position. The final decision will be that of the manager.

Last year relations with that club were fantastic; I mentioned they were too cosy as they were hugely interested in Ross/Stones when negotiating for Rom.

Major turn around; I know the club dont really get on with UTD anymore after Baines fiasco. I hope that's true as underneath his charm, Martinez has a certain steel.
