John Stones transfer saga

Might be playing with fire here, but I'd tell Chelsea they have five days to meet a ~£45 million valuation so this saga can end one way or another.

Beginning next summer, it'll be impossible to get any players at a decent fee (yes, I realize that includes Stones). Bring in Stones' replacement, plus Roberto's "three", then spend the significant money left on rising young talent (20-22ish) that you can leave with their current club for a year (since we're running out of squad space).

That's operating under the assumption we can identify and close out deals in 7-10 days, which may be a dumb assumption.

I am aware that I am probably going to get attacked by angry fans now, but let's try looking at this the other way.

Just to clarify, not saying we should definitely sell Stones now, but we can all agree £40m is a lot. Only few CBs in whole world are worth that much and they are all world class and playing in clubs who usually are participating in, at least, CL semis (not saying Stones isn't, but we aren't level of Real Madrid, Barca etc). Take into the consideration that he might and I repeat, just MIGHT, which is the key word, be the best England's, BPL's and World's CB in future. We had many cases like this where clubs refuse to sell certain player for huge amount of money (isn't Rodwell one of these?) and then next season players just turn [Poor language removed] (one-season wonders) and clubs sell them for much lower price. Stones is a great defender and a great lad and is most likely going to succeed, but no one guarantees us that. Especially in the situation like this where we need players and money for improving on other fields, as we need that. The only negative side of the potential transfer imo is that it is really late in transfer season and we might not get proper replacements in this short period of time. If they, however, refuse to offer 40m, he should definitely stay.

TL;DR - We are not a selling club anymore, but if someone offers alot of money, even for players like Stones, it might be smarter to let them go.

To be fair, all of them apart from that weapon Rick are being sensible, saying the club is going about it the wrong way and should bid what it'll take to actually get the player.

Love how he's defending their players trying to unsettle him. I'm sure he'd be buzzing if two Madrid players and the manager came out and urged Hazard to join them.
Even he calms down a bit later in the thread and he makes a good point that it is a pity the relationship between the two clubs seems to have suffered.

It was of benefit to both clubs - they have lots of young players to loan for experience/potential sale and we often have gaps in our side that we need short term cover for whilst we either develop/buy long term solutions.

Still don't understand why Chelsea took the aggresive public approach they did.

Every club sells for the right amount. But another year might see Stones' valuation go considerably above what Chelsea is offering.

Think it's purely mourinho's arrogance, assuming any player at Everton would throw a request in straight away.

As I said in an earlier post, it's not that cut and dry 'here's 40 million away you go', there is a lot to come out of that before we have some cash to play with, then add in everyone will know we have the money and its getting late in the window, most quotes will go way up when we go looking for replacements. We'd struggle to bring in 2 or 3 players of the quality we need with the money, add in we already need 3 players. Just not worth it to sell now

Why?I would not sell at any price now. It is too late to find suitable replacements and it will jerpardize our season. We only have two senior CB.

Am I beginning to detect a slight change in the stance of the media?
Up to this it was when Everton would sell and all that was unclear was the price.

There is now just the beginning of a realisation that when Everton say not for sale..that is what they mean.
I am not sure now there will be a fourth bid.

So a third bid of £30 mill has been rejected , you would think Chelsea have a plan B in mind I.e. Another player. Ironically, if he does become the player we all believe he can be then the inevitable will happen . But hey I'd be delighted if we hang on long enough for him to become a superstar price wise , even the so called bigger clubs reached their limits with the likes of Bale, Suarez, Sterling, Ronaldo. fabregas.

I would be surprised if the club didn't already have two CBs lined up just in case. Is it an ideal scenario for this season? Probably not. But if the right decisions are made, it could mean the team are legitimately stacked for the following campaign.

I'm of the belief Stones goes this summer or next. If that is truly the case, £45 million goes much further this summer than even £50-55 million would next summer.
