Everton are considering a move for Dynamo Kiev's Andriy Yarmolenko as they step-up their attempt to sign a playmaker.

Roberto Martinez is a known admirer of the 25-year-old Ukraine international, and saw first hand his talents when the 25-year-old helped knock the Blues out of the Europa League with a stunning goal in Kiev's 5-2 victory at the last 16 stage last season.

The Toffees boss went on record at the time to explain why he felt Yarmolenko could thrive in the Premier League, and is believed to be interested in trying to bring him to Goodison before the current transfer window closes.

"He would be a good signing for the Premier League," the Catalan said in March.

"Any player who has got good ability in one-to-one situations and brings a goal-scoring threat can find a big role.

"Our league is very physical, very demanding. Yarmolenko controls the moment of the game really well.

"He's got 10, 15 goals a season. He has good experience and is a good age."

The ECHO understands that Everton have been alerted to the possibility of a deal as the Kiev vice-captain remains hotly-interested in plying his trade in the Premier League.

Stoke City were weighing-up a move for the 6ft 2in midfielder earlier in the summer, but have cooled their interest since sealing the capture of another reported Blues target, Xherdan Shaqiri.

Speaking earlier this month Yarmolenko said he is eager to experience another challenge after spending all his career to date with his home-town club.

"I am not looking to get a new improved contract at Dynamo," he said. "I do not think that money is the most important thing. I'm not chasing money. I've told (Kiev President Igor Surkis) that this is my last contract with Dynamo. I want to evolve, to move on.

"I'm a professional and I will fulfil my contract. If I stay I will give my best in all games and in training.

"I have been with this team since childhood and I have been happy with everything at Dynamo, I just do not like our championship."

Old news. Next

Don't normally get too excited about transfers until i see them holding the flag at the ground but if we sign Yarmolenko, it would be the most excited on any of our transfer business since Kanchelskis for me. Would be a major signing and shows some intent to push for the top four.

'Dreams of Yarmolenko being introduced at half time against City and we dry bum the blue mooners 4-0 (Kone all four!!)'

100%.
Ive seen two very good sources have said its a lot more along than just 'considering a move'.

1 Privately messaged me earlier.
The other on the Everton Forum from the main man.

Hope your info's right, mate. Just can't see it personally.

I still feel Yarmolenko isn't the kind of player we should be after in terms of a playmaker. I was thinking someone who's somewhere between Pienaar and Silva. But still, I couldn't turn down a player of his ability if he's keen and available.
