I'm confident he will be here until at least next season. Who knows, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we'll have such a good season that he might want to stay and help us achieve our goals.

All going down to the wire this now. Martinez has played a strong hand very well this window with regard to Stones. There's a genuine desire to keep the player and Chelsea or United even will need to pay top dollar now to get his signature.

It's just a shame it's been the only way he can get a transfer pot. That's the way it increasingly looks.

RM has shouldered the burdens of this window. I hope that pathetic and parasitical board of directors are appreciating what he's done.

So @davek @catcherintherye and @allnaysayers in this thread what do you make of the latest press conference from Martinez?

Kind of blows the "yeah a deals been done, it's just a game all this" out the window I'd say. Makes some of you statements look pretty foolish as well doesn't it?

i think we can all the glad that the board and Martinez are in control and not you lot with you short term plans and panicking when someone is interested in one of our young starlets.

I gave my view above. It's consistent with what I've said and I believe it'll be borne out.

I hope he stays but if he goes it will be the usual line of " he wanted to go, nothing we could have done " maybe he phoned Bill crying as well.

Think Martinez has contemplated selling him so he can use the funds to strengthen other areas. Shame, but this lot have form for not backing the manager.

They'll probably give Martinez a pay rise to make up for a lack of funds to back him with signings.

Either he goes or is offered a new deal on terms that reflects a 30m player, that's how it works. Problem with this is his agent will be inserting buy out clauses galore and if he we don't cave in headlines like Stones rejects Everton contract will be all over the media. If he does go, don't expect RM to make a flurry of fancy signings with the money, he'll keep the bulk of it for next summer as he did with the Fellaini money which largely paid for Rom. Thoroughly depressing and perhaps a spanking at the weekend against Southampton which I wouldn't bet against even with a fully fit team will wake RM up he has to act now on signings
