Computer games.

If they think they can get away with it, they'll do it

Microsoft only got rid of Connect coming boxed with the console once the PS4 steamed into the lead and did it as a way to try and stop the bleeding

If they think upping the console price with the VR helmets will net them more them more money even with less people buying consoles, they will do it. They will happily sell less units at a higher price. You watch, they will try and make it an essential thing. We'll have to see whether it works or whether gamers stand firm

But it won't, that's the whole point.

Consoles make Sony and Microsoft the most money over time through residual services like Xbox Live and purchases through their online stores. If less people buy their consoles then they will make less money overall, generally the profit margins on console sales initially are small and are offset over time through commercial deals with software makers and the aforementioned online services.

In the plus side I've just been playing Star Wars Episode 1 Pod Racer on the Dreamcast.

It's effing boss. Easily the best thing to come out of that movie.

Boss little game, I loved the arcade version with the two handles.

Anyone give Alien Isolation a try? And whens the next Fallout release due?

Obviously Wolfenstein Doom and Quake are the greats of the formative days of FPS but the multiplayer of Goldeneye on the N64 still has a cherished hold in a corner of my mind.

Alien - Awesome. Make sure you play it late at night, headphones on, turned up to maximum, lights out.

Fallout is due out in November IIRC.

Spent many an hour on Goldeneye on the N64. It came out just after I joined the Navy. I was at A school living in open bay barracks. My friend had a N64 and a TV crammed in his locker, so picture about 8 guys all crowded around a double-width locker, 4 playing at a time, and the two lowest placed players swapping out. I hardly ever had to give up my controller (although I hardly ever won.....a perennial 2nd place on that game :/ )

I'm trying to think of a peripheral that ever became "essential" apart from the controller...they've tried to push a lot of BS but it never works out. It'll be the same for VR.

VR depends on the game; Elite is meant to be absolutely incredible with it (and thats with the Oculus Dev kit ones, not the higher spec commercial release model).

You knew your place or just not where the body armour was hidden. Been promising myself Alien for a while - is it one of the best theres been? I was gutted about New Vegas because theres a good solid game in there but the time wasnt spent to iron out the kinks and get it as smooth as Fallout3. Love boshing deathclaws.
What other PC games have been marvellous in the past 18 months and what rig are you running?
