@Mikey_Fitzgerald @efc.1878 @TomDixie

Thanks for contacting us about Match of the Day, broadcast on 8th August 2015.

We understand you were unhappy with comments made by the studio pundits during a discussion about Everton player John Stones.

Commentators and pundits only call the game as they see it and football is a game of opinions. It's in the nature of commentating and punditry that contributors are expected to provide their personal view on the action and events surrounding the matches they are watching. All we can expect of them is a fair assessment based on their own knowledge and experience. We do employ a range of contributors to provide as wide a range of views as we can, helping to interpret and cover any given match or result.

We’re sorry on this occasion you feel the comments were wrong and we certainly hope you continue to enjoy the programme in the future.

Thank you again for contacting us, we value your feedback about Match of the Day. All complaints are sent to senior management and programme makers every morning and we included your points in this overnight report. These reports are among the most widely read sources of feedback in the BBC and ensures that your complaint has been seen by the right people quickly. This helps inform their decisions about current and future programmes.

Kind Regards

They did a good job of not answering my complaint at all there. This line: "It's in the nature of commentating and punditry that contributors are expected to provide their personal view on the action and events surrounding the matches they are watching." I don't see what Chelsea's interest in John Stones has remotely to do with the Everton vs Watford match, nor is the fact they've had bids rejected remotely relevant to their post match discussion. It's also completely inappropriate of them given that we've made it clear he's not for sale. I might reply saying something to that effect.

Anyone else absolutely crap their pants when they got the Sky Sports News alert saying 'Chelsea have agreed a fee..' (defender from Germany)

Or was that just me?

hard to get across just from what he said how out of order it felt. the tone felt really weird. never liked him though so hard to know when its an over reaction
Yeah. Everton did not quite touch him to be honest. Usually says we were without doubt the best team he played for but his time at Spurs touched him much more personally. He gets us a bit but more second hand than most of our ex players. Most pros go along with the idea of players moving on as quickly as they fancy it so for him to go along with the media favourites sweeping up young talent when they fancy it is no big deal for him.

He apparently had a good season last year but they have paid quite a lot for a 21year old defender untested in the league

The Ghana left-back, 21, has been earmarked as a long-term replacement for Filipe Luís, who was sold back to Atlético Madrid after just a season at Stamford Bridge. Negotiations have been continuing for several weeks, with the Premier League champions seeing a bid of €25m (£17.2m) rejected over the weekend.

Augsburg had been holding out for a fee closer to €30m (£21.2m) but with Rahman having already agreed personal terms for his move to the Premier League, the Bundesliga side have now reached a settlement over the structure of payments. Chelsea are expected to pay around £14m up front, with several significant bonus payments up to £6m due should he play more than 100 matches. The player and his agent have already travelled to London, with a medical planned for later this week.

if you didnt know he played for us doubt you would know after watching the programme for years. always a player who put cash above all else.

You, like all of us will be back. We can't live without footy and they know it!

I will still watch Everton mate. Not watching any other match that doesn't involves us. I was genuinely gutted on Saturday thinking this circus has come back too soon. Not seen anything from the weekend, bar Everton, and feel no need to now.

This is just not true, I do not inderstand why people perpetuate this myth.

I don't think its a myth. Club finances are all before us. Lukaku and McCarthy were bought because Everton had jingle to splash after selling Fellaini, Anichebe and Jelavic.

Since then, McCarthy has a new contract with certainly a hefty raise, Mirallas has a new contract with probably a nominal raise, Stones will be getting a bumper raise in the near future, Garbutt just signed a 5 year deal, D-Foo is in, Cleverley is on the books and the opposing delta is nominal - getting Alcaraz and Distin off the books, Garbutt off the books for a year (if not a little something extra, you know, for the effort), getting Lennon off the books. More and more cash being thrown at the wage bill has to leave less and less for the transfer kitty unless it's getting replenished from somewhere. In a static situation, Everton do not have the luxury of buying 10 - 15M rated players every window.

I appreciate what you are saying, your analysis is correct except it ignores the likely operating profits in 2014/15, the cash position at 31 May 2014 and the increased ability of the club to borrow on the back of increased revenues (only necessary because there's no capital investment from shareholders/new investors but nevertheless a source of capital)
