....not sure if Barnsley have a sell on clause. This could make a significant difference, QPR reported to have couped £10m of the Sterling deal.

They will, and that's a very good point.

Ultimately, whatever the number might be, we need to ensure that if we sell John Stones (as we don't need to or want to) then we must be left with enough money to replace him and strengthen other positions meaningfully. If you don't come out of a sale stronger, then the only reason to sell is if the player wants to leave. John Stones does not.

Lets put it this way ..... if john stones was a chelsea player and psg or real madrid or man city wanted him , how much would they ask ? Or would they say he is not for sale at any price ?

£45m minimum for me, because we have to pay Barnsley a big wedge of that too. I don't want them adding in tons of stupid clauses or throwing players in either. Give us the cold hard cash or jog on, we're in the driving seat.

All good and well saying stuff like 'you're deluded if you think he's worth more than £30m,' well he is to us, and frankly we don't want him to go, so he's worth as much as we say he's worth.

....not sure about your last point. I fear he would like to speak with Chelsea but is trying to do things the right way. All conjecture and he will hopefully press on if the move doesn't happen but I think it's only natural that he's attracted at the prospect of playing for Chelsea.

According to the Barnsley fans their chairman confirmed they have although he didn't specify what it was - rumours are 15-20%

....cheers LL. That is a hefty chunk of the money. It could also off set what is owed on Lukaku so there might not actually be much coming into our coffers if the move happens.

If Madrid offered Chelsea £500m for Hazard, they'd say yes, because it's (relatively speaking) an offer too good to turn down.
I would be prepared to sell at £500 million

For Everton, something around £50m (sadly this figure may be a lot less) would be too large to turn down.
Which is why his sale is unacceptable.

every player at every club has a price which makes keeping them the unacceptable option.
This board will sell Stones at a price far below his value to the club.

We would be left with one recognised centre back and will have lost the brightest defensive talent in the country. The chances of picking up another John Stones at the price we paid for him are minuscule so why sell? We would only have to spend most of the transfer fee on a replacement anyway.

Or do we replace him with a lower quality player with less potential and once again take a massive step backwards when we are trying to build a team that can compete for silverwear?

I'm sick of it mate so no, the sale of John Stones is totally unacceptable unless Chelsea are prepared to buy us a 'king massive new stadium, transfer us Costa for a pound and pay us £100 million on top.

Unreasonable?

Not even arsed.

Well what I'm saying is that the notion of selling him is not unacceptable. Selling him for less than the magic number would be unacceptable.

Where the magic number means we can pay off the Barnsley fee, replace him and strengthen the rest of the team enough to conclusively say it was a good deal for us.

I do not think we'll get offered such a fee, and so I think he should stay, as he's the tits.

Considering Chelsea charged us £28 mil for Lukaku, who no doubt is a talent, but one with question marks over him.
Stones will go to the very top, of that I am sure.
Has to be around £50mil. Whether our board value him at that much is a different matter though.

If Everton can get 30m from the deal then i think he is gone. No one is quite positive on the % that Barnsley will get but i assume that if the deal is somewhere around 35m then i think the bid would be accepted.

Tbh am glad from Barnsley's perspective they have the clause, they didn't get much from the original fee for training him up. However it certainly complicates the situation for us.
