£45-50m would apparently leave us with £40m+ after Barnsley's reported cut, which is huge money (we have to remember that this would put John Stones in the top 15 most expensive transfers of all time). It would need to be that kind of fee for me to sell him if I was Martinez or on the board.

That cash combined with the budget we currently have would allow us to drastically improve our squad.

And by that we mean... 'Secure our short term future, by paying off interest fees from the bank'.

Anything north of £35m straight up and it will start getting serious.

I reckon we'd quote them £50m and then they'd settle on a difference somewhere between if it's just Chelsea bidding.

The key is if we're prepared to let him leave we need to attract other offers.

The TV money provides little/no competitive advantage relative to other PL clubs (since it is about evenly apportioned). What it does do/has done is allow financial positions of clubs to improve massively. Given the latter, forced sale of assets for financial reasons is no longer an issue. In the absence of said, price of prized assets goes up considerably. Thus, I have plumped for a price reflective of this 'take it or do one' situation i.e. 45-50million

The biggest issue when putting a price on him is, it's not gonna go down, so If we have to accept he is going, let's almost have this next season as a freebie if he's worth £35 now he will be this time next year when he has 3 years left. That's my thoughts but also selling him now means we will be left with 1 PL established CB which is just as poor as it is that we currently only have 2 with 18 days until the start of the season

Don't want to sell him, full stop.

However, I have ticked the £35m - £40m option, primarily because there was no £40m to £45m bracket. I think the sales of Shaw and Sterling have more or less defined the range in which he would be valued: he's clearly better than Shaw, and Sterling plays in a position that is always more expensive than a central defender.

Stones is one of our only two senior CBs though. And in about 18 months time I think he will be rated by almost everyone as better than Jags. He's very young, he's English and he looks like he might be captaincy material at both club and international level. Keep him if at all possible.

I voted £50m+

I will bore you all to death if i go into how highly i rate him. Just to give you a idea, i love watching Stones just as much as i did Cannavaro, Maldini and a prime Lucio or Thiago Silva. Not saying he is in their league but i always say defenders should be seen and not heard - just protect the goal, safety first etc....

John Stones Everton's No.5.
