Easy to write Coleman stories off the back off our interest in Byram.

Hibbert started at Anfield with Browning replacing him. If a position needed cover, its RB.

It is a bit of coincidence though, I can't see us splashing out a considerable amount of money for a back up right back.

Of its five mil then it's not huge money, especially if spread over the contract. Would be in line with Martinez s policy of having younger players lined up to succeed. At the moment we've garbutt, Browning, Galloway and you could even include besic who are potentially long term replacementa for the likes of Baines, Jags and Barry.

Right, I'm allowed back in to play once again. Guardian I class as slightly credible. Reckon we are after the Leeds right back. Could mean the Coleman to United might have legs.

Everton express interest in Leeds United right-back Sam Byram
• Newcastle and Sunderland also keen on 21-year-old defender
• Byram broke into Leeds team three years ago

Everton are interested in the Leeds Unitedright-back Sam Byram despite planning to resist any approach that may materialise from Manchester United for Seamus Coleman.

Byram, 21, has attracted inquiries from several Premier League clubs since graduating into the senior team three seasons ago and Everton have joined Newcastle and Sunderland in expressing interest. David Moyes, the former Evertonmanager, was keen on bringing Byram to Goodison Park along with John Stones in January 2013 as he looked to inject youth into his squad but only a deal for the Barnsley-born defender ultimately went through.

Everton, however, have continued to monitor the progress of the attack-minded full back and Moyes’ successor, Roberto Martínez, is considering an offer for a player who has made 108 appearances in the Championship for Leeds. Byram recently responded to questions over his future by declaring his focus is on helping Uwe Rösler’s side win promotion to the Premier League next season.

Martínez’s interest in Byram will inevitably create doubt over Coleman’s future at Goodison amid reports that the Republic of Ireland international is a summer transfer target for Louis Van Gaal. Everton have not received an inquiry from Old Trafford as yet and have no desire to sell the Donegal-born defender, who signed a new five-year contract with the club only last summer.
Sounds like if anything he would be backup with a view that Coleman might move in a season or two if he impresses and Coleman wants to leave.

Defo what it sounds like more than him being an immediate replacement for Coleman. Is it what we need to be focusing our spending on though?

I think we do need cover whether it's the priority is debatable. Last season I was annoyed we didn't replace Hibbert and while I was wrong and Hibbert did OK I do think it's another year on and perhaps going in with just Hibbert as cover would be a mistake.

Interesting. The addition of another RB would bring the squad size up to 24, assuming a CB and playmaker are also added. If Garbutt signs and doesn't get loaned out for whatever reason, that's 25.

Who's arsed, the more the better. For so many years we've been down to the bare bones with the squad at times its nice having a bigger squad, pretty sure we'll see garbutt go out, and probably Ty and Galloway will have spells out on short term loans. One or two permanent out too
