I'm certainly a fan of that theory but we already have a lot of young players especially if Del comes. Someone like Payet would be good for the next 3 years.

The problem with young players is if they don't click then we'll have another season like last.

And I don't think Rom and Stones stay if that happens.
 

You know, I've been thinking....(always dangerous)...players that state they want to play Champions League from teams that aren't in the CL. Am I being naieve in thinking that's a selfish attitude?

Essentially, are they saying "I want to play in a team that's already done all the hard work & made it to CL football." meaning "I don't want to have to work to get this team into the CL, I'd rather someone else has already done it for me"

I can see where you'd think that, it might be true for some players but I also think some just might feel the team they're at won't make it anytime soon. I'm sure when Rom signed last summer after we narrowly missed out on it, he was thinking that we'd either stay that close( 5-6th or actually get it. Now obviously that falls on some of the players as well ( 8 of his 20 were in EL, although he got no service which is why we need a no 10).

I suppose it depends on how ambitious the club is. If they're building for the future or not. If I was at villa or WBA i would call it common sense. At Everton, Spurs, Southampton (debatable) I would think it might be possible if the best players stay and you have the backing from the board

If they have already been trying the last 5 years with no success, I wouldn't call it selfish either

Yes, so he is aware of how close we are & can be a part of building with the team & getting there. If he was +27 years old & hadn't experienced it, then I suppose I'd have a better understanding of the motivation.

Anyway, it was just a random thought I had. Thanks for discussing it. ;)
