Don't take it to heart mate.
I think people are just remembering things like

If he hadn't just had an op which looks like it might keep him out for some of the pre-season then pre-season would probably be the time for Martinez to try Baines in a different position, but with the op on his foot and Oviedo out injured too, it doesn't really look like they'll have much of a chance to try it in friendlies.

No, take it to heart and don't post such dross again.

"Roberto Martinez, last season, revealed how he took Baines to Manchester United’s Champions League tie with Bayern Munich so he could study Philipp Lahm who successfully made the transition from full-back to midfield.

And though the Blues boss and Baines had discussed his potential to play there he admits to be being surprised when, eight months later, Martinez named him in Everton’s midfield at St James’ Park. “I’d never even trained there,” Baines said.

Roberto told me on the day (that I would be playing there)."

Surely you work all week on a game plan for upcoming games no? That's the way I've always thought it's done anyway..

Same reason why Galloway didn't know he was in the team, never mind starting the other week, same reason why Garbutt didn't know he'd be playing or that we'd trained with 3 at the back. The guys a fool.

Baines has an eye for a pass and could potentially be a playmaker, unfortunately having played at fullback for his entire career I doubt he'd have any positional sense at all. Won't work imo.

Could this ever work as he gets older? Personally I'm not sure it would as he'd have to learn a new way of defending and playing the game ahead and behind him. Might give more chances to Oviedo/Galloway/Garbutt (if he stays).

If we were struggling for midfield players it would be worth using him as a stopgap, but I don't really see the need in giving Bainsey a new roll. In some ways it doesn't send out a good message to our existing midfielders. It's also a bit of a concern that Roberto Martinez has his own ideas as to where a player should play instead of utilising their strengths. There's was lots of talk of the way Lukaku and Barkley were being used, and that he wasn't getting the best from them.

Anyway, to answer your question, it probably would work but, in my opinion, it shouldn't have to :)

I'd give him a go wide right and see if he could exploit the spaces in behind with a lovely clipped through ball from his magical left foot.

so Roberto said it did he, must be gospel then...well it might've been 18mths. ago when we knew no better, but now we see that 95+% of anything Roberto says is pure billshut I wouldn't go near it and tbh I don't think Baines would fancy it either.
