2015 post UK election discussion

I come from a VERY affluent town. I see a lot of relative poverty and the lifeblood of the community being sucked away as locals can no longer afford to live and work in the area.

I come from a shithole of a town that has been Labour since the days of Jesus, and I saw a lot of relative poverty, a lot of poor housing and a lot of antisocial behaviour. I also saw absolutely nothing done about it by the Labour government or the Labour council. The only time Labour seemed to care was local/general elections... funny that.

I quickly came to realise that the Labour party is a party that stands up for nobody but themselves. The poor are seen as nothing more than a guaranteed vote to many of them.

Now, I'm not saying the Tories are any better, on many issues I profoundly disagree with them.

My conclusion was Labour aren't the answer and neither are the Tories.

Any protest like that would serve as nothing more than to provide something for moderate and fair-minded people to laugh at.

Someone thats going to be important to the opposition now is Clegg because he can expose some of the things that went on in the last 5 years, can there be an opposition coalition ? I know that all of the other parties are the opposition but can he be in a shadow cabinet ?


For those that are obviously in support of the tories and what the are about to implement (cos you are the ones who are obviously doing alright at the moment).........

How much would you say you'd need to be earning if you were in my position i.e. a family with 3 kids in it ?
You can maybe base it on what you live off or base it on the minimum you think you could get by on, I'll let you know honestly if I am able to hit on that kind of income at all based on what I've seen whilst looking for a new job.

Must agree with this. I suspect many Tories would have been equally upset and angry if the result had gone the other way.

the overwhelming majority of people on benefits desperately want to work. It's just that the work really isn't there.

I think the overwhelming majority on benefits(tax credits) are actually in employment aren't they ? Wasn't Cameron taken to task after saying something about folks going out to work whilst their neighbours curtains were still drawn, and it was pointed out to him that those going out in the early hours were going out to work a shift on minimum wage and being supported by tax credits.
A point he completely ignored btw and sat laughing about it with his front bench.

Regardless of who anyone voted for, I think all parties would do well to remember this.
