Duffy never got a run and a chance to prove/disprove himself. All the slagging off of Duffy was based on what?

Hibbert has had 11 years of mediocrity tempered by crap. Even Neville the Great Pretender had 250 plus games.

I remember Duffy playing and I remember him playing very well. And, given our current plight, it looks really fn stupid to have sold him since we seem to have literally no idea what to do when an opposing team has a corner(or we do either). But I really have no idea whether or not he was limited in other avenues in training that Martinez(and, i guess to a lesser extent, Moyes) saw and didnt play. But I will be honest, I wouldnt be surprised if it was all about both managers playing favorites and not who could something better than others.

Ah the good old myth of world class CB Shane Duffy that we let get away!

The fact he'd possibly be a better backup choice than the current two, is down to how poor those two have become, rather than how good Duffy is.

Funny how he didn't have or hasn't now got top PL clubs knocking on his door.

Those 3 games he played well has set him up for life on here haha

I think he will probably be kept on for another year as back up. He has been available for most games this season. He provides solid cover, he is integrated into the club and the squad and I wouldn't think he is on massive wages. We will have Jagielka, Stones and Alcaraz which means that we really need only sign one central defender... that is depending on how far away our academy lads are from first team football.

Duffy, young player who came through our own system, is good in the air, wasn't on much wages wise, and was ready to be plugged into the first team when required

Alcaraz, older player on inflated wages, who gets injured far too often and has never impressed when he plays. Has been brought him seemingly because Martinez wanted some of his players on the payroll

Youth System Vs Jobs for the Boys

Yup, real struggle to decide who I'd rather have out of those two options

Mikey. There was a reason Duffy was released. I think he considered a little slow to play against top premiership strikers.
If he had been around forty years earlier he would have been a star . But, we see with Stones that it is more about poise , positioning and
footballing ability than it is about sheer physical presence.

I would say the club were not in a rush to get rid of Duffy, but couldn't guarantee him regular football. Duffy for the sake of his career went to a club where he will play every eek and he deserves to be applauded for that.
