Right I play football- Sunday league standard nothing more. I can clear the first man on a corner- my nephew who is 11 can get it over the first man on a corner. To say we dont practice corners and thats why we are bad at them maybe why we dont score many from a corner but the ball into the box which for me is a standard requirement for a professional footballer is down to the players ineptitude rather than the managers.

Of course i understand that it is down to the player (in this case baines or mirallas) to beat the first man. By practising your corners and set pieces you have a system in place for the taker to aim it in a specific area or to a man. It seems right now given the lack of goals from set pieces that baines and Kev are simply hitting it and hoping it does something. I also noticed that baines and kev fail to beat the first man with outswinging corners and i much prefer the inswinging corners.

No no no for me. Would be one step forward (maybe?!) and how many backwards when a new manager has to start all over again. If top 8/10 is already out then we should back Martinez to spend the rest of this season in the league experimenting so he can go into next season - his third with us - ready for a proper go at top 4, making all his mistakes this season. As loads have said 40 will be plenty enough to stay up this season. What he needs to do is get the players to buy into the longer term vision. And who better than Martinez, who speaks so inspirationally, to manage that? Any players who cant see beyond the next few months can go, they are not worthy of the blue shirt! As hard as it is, I have faith that Martinez is one of the best 2 or 3 managers in this league and we should stick with him.

So, West Brom are playing the 'Pulis' way already, but we can't get the 'Martinez' way in 18 months? Don't get me wrong, I'm not for removing Roberto but it definitely isn't coming together as quickly as Pulis has at WBA.

Well, it's a lot easier to teach a bunch of players to play in two lines of five and occasionally make a beeline towards the opposing goal than it is to have 70% possession, get players to rotate in a way that allows them to step completely out of position, etc.

Question for those who voted no.

At what point would you say enough is enough?

If we hit the bottom 3?
If we actually went down?
If we lose our next 3 games?

When would you lose your patience and accept that the Martinez dream has turned into a mightmare?

Lose the next 2 and that's it, especially so if we lose badly at home to THEM. It would push a lot over the edge and the chairman would be forced to act. It's so disappointing a step backwards was taken last night after the recent mini improvement.

btw I abstained

If we actually went down because I don't think Martinez would be the right manager to bring us back up. Otherwise, talk to me this time next year.

If we hit bottom 3 in March or later than that. I think we will be more likely pushing top 8 by then. The signs are there already, last night we just got 'Pulised'

top 8 is 12 points away. our fixtures until mid March are Palace (a), Liverpool (h), Chelsea (a), Leicester (h), Arsenal (a), Stoke (a).

Assuming 8th doesn't gain a point where can you see 12/13 points coming from?

For me, it is not so much the position we are in but the way he is going about trying to change things.

i.e. A shake up of the style we play

The three games prior to last evening presaged just such a shake up.....the ball was moved forward faster and from deeper.

It was impossible to do that last night as Baggies never even tried to come out and play a game of football.

Away to Palace we will see if the change of heart is still there as Palace will have to come at us a bit.

Then the RS come to Goodison and they won't park the bus so we will be able to look for Lukaku from deep again.

No, the more I think about it the more I will give him at least these next three league games to show he is the man to keep us up.

Then I will re-assess after that.

;)
