I think a captain should hide a shiv down their sock and anybody who annoys them in the slightest, opposition, team mate, official or fan should get it in the gut.

Jags just doesn't have the heart to shiv anybody in my opinion, I reckon Coleman would or just give it to Dunc and he could prowl the edge of the pitch waiting for an opportunity.

When you have 10 or 11 players in the box, 2 will be actually marking their key players on set pieces. The rest end up in zonal positions. These are usually your centre halves against their centre halves or striker.

Thats why this "zonal over man marking" system is usual rubbished by managers because, by default, it always ends up a mixture of the two leaning one way or the other.

If thats the case then why did Collins run, from the panelty spot, past Distin, past Coleman and in between Besic and Naismith. The reason for the run was simple, Naismith is covering the area of the front post, he has a 2 yards run on incoming ball. Collins has run 10 yards into the space. Man for man marking would negate this has the centre half would run with him all the way, not pass him off to another area

Not arguing anymore on this anyway, the evidence is front of me, especially form tonight.

And he's awful as well... That derby goal has done a lot to cloud how crap he has been this season, and Distin took all the abuse and all the blame, when I say it was 70% Jagielka. I always preferred Heitinga to Jags when it was a choice between the 2, and people used to scoff, but Jagielka is terrible on the ball and terrible at reading the game. He is quicker than Heitinga was, and had a habit of blocking a few shots, which looks great in highlight packages, but it also caused an ungodly amount of own goals and deflected shots past a stranded keeper. His passing has always been atrocious, and he looks lost without having Howard to pass back to. Average Centre back at most for me, and i would stick with Stones and Distin/Alcaraz until Galloway or Browning are ready, or at least until we can sign another experienced players to take his place.

Defo. Current one is a disgrace. Unacceptable whatever. He shouldn't be captain. I'd personally give it to Jimmy Mac as there's fkall other candidates I can think of.

Tbf to jags he can see what we all see that is a team that has stopped fighting or playing for the manager so like the rest of us just waiting for the axe to fall. Why should he rally the troops in support of an incompetent and unwanted manager.
Because that's what he gets paid for. weather they like Martinez or not they play for EVERTON and we expect them all to leave everything on the pitch. There are far to many players and supporters with the spoilt brat attitude these days

Whatever Martinez' faults, he can't be organising us on the field and backing our players up when decisions don't go their way. Two games in a row we've had someone booked for not piping down. Can Jags sort it out, or do we need someone else to step into his shoes?

Post match interviews lately from our captain are terrible, he looks like a 5 year old kid who has been shouted at, this alone is totally unacceptable for a captain of any club, then there is the nervous sh##thouse performance's from him lately, he needs dropping and we need a new CB, Stones doesn't half bring some stability to our defence and can play a bit too

Jags has been brought up under Colin [Poor language removed] and Moyes to get rid asap out of defence.

It's not surprising he is panicking when asked to be Franz Beckenbauer.

And it's showing in his captaincy.

That was Distin not doing his job and passing responsibility. It was his man. The player ran into that "zone" and left him.

Distins first job is to stop him making that run. He failed. Let others take the responsibility.

They're in a zone to clear an area if the ball comes their way. When a 6ft 5ft brickwall comes running full pelt, you standing in an area isn't going to stop him - he's gone through you.

The idea of zonal if mainly from having lots of bodies in the box that cover danger zones. You also should have someone attacking the ball.

It still doesn't remove the element of marking dangerous players, which still goes on. It has to.

We all season tend to fail in the first step.

You watch the weekend. If Kompany plays...we'll have a player on him on corners.
