Zlatan, Forlan, Drogba, Totti, Raul, Di Natale.

Even that's a small list over the course of even the last 20years. Also none of them apart from Drogba did it in the most physically demanding League in world football, In fact Forlan flopped in this League in his prime.

Not really the point I was making. All I'm saying is I'm not getting excited about his past reputation, i'll see what he delivers on the pitch at his age. Howver he's still better than what we have so in that respect yeah, it's a decent signing.

Would be ridiculous if he didn't play him tbh considering the circumstances - 33 years old/world star/60k pw.

What would be the fcuking point otherwise???

Indeed - he'll start more often than not, I'd say he'll get around 20 league games as a starter, most at home, and most in the Naismith role.

The Naismith role behind Lukaku? Nah, not for me - the guy is a poacher now. He will play CF I reckon whenever Lukaku needs a rest or is being played out wide.

My point was never that Hope was better than Eto'o

My point was that rather than bringing in an older player for big money as a short term fix, maybe it would be better to cultivate our younger players with a long term view

That being said, it sounds like we've got Eto'o at a very reasonable wage considering his "name value", so it's not as urgent a reason to be wary of the deal as I first thought

Mate we have some super youngsters and a proud tradition of bringing them through so yeah totally see your point. But heck, having some of the youngsters in the same squad as a legend like Eto'o will be one hell of a way to cultivate them. Imagine one of those three (assuming they are not all loaned out) lining up for a League Cup tie alongside a 3 time Champions League winner.

In fact the whole damn squad could learn heaps from him.

Made up.

I'd hazard a guess as it being the same point as many of the other players in the team: if he is playing well then he will play more in the team. If he doesn't play so well then he will have to up his game.

Hopefully out of those collective resource pool of players we can put eleven together to beat whoever we play.

There's nothing to see here.

If the way rumours are true about him turning down big money moves then it seems like he has a point to prove. This looks like its going to pay off massively.. What an exciting g backup striker!

Don't think he has anything left to prove, except perhaps that he can still be effective at this level...He's won everything there is to win apart from the WC and has gotten the respect he's craved...He'll work hard but it's been a few years now that he's simply chasing the big paycheck...At Anzi pulling in €20 million a season and even as a squad player for Chelsea he was making €8 million, looking to get as much as he can I'm sure

So you say , I don't agree , and I would actually question Martinez if he didn't play him regularly.

Not only will Rom and the other youngsters learn from a lad like Eto'o, he is also ideal competition for Rom to keep him on his toes. Lukaku knew that if fit, regardless of form, he was in the line up each week. Having this fella around changes that and its nothing but win/win in my eyes.

A couple of off games by Lukaku and he can be pulled now. Its a smart move by Bob. There is plenty of benefit having a lad of his reputation at our club, despite his age. If the rumours doing the rounds about how much of a paycut he's taking are true, then jesus wept what a masterstroke this is.

Win/win
