I am looking for positives from that game..........can someone help me?
Only positive I can think of is...any manager trying to study us for the league will be scratching their heads trying to figure out whats going on...as they wont have a clue from what they saw

No joke but if that happens, we'll loose and probably be pointless after the first 3 games.

However it won't happen, there's no way Mirallas and Lukaku won't start.

..I don't know if the Belgian lads will start, but I doubt they will. We had 3 points after 3 games last season (I think), with a much easier start. Chelsea and Arsenal wont be relishing coming to us. 10 games is always a good indication of where you finish.

You think we are a striker away from being a decent side? Even with the likes of McGeady and Hibbo starting next week? Another striker would be nice but the lack of creativity and static defending are more of a concern to me.
I understand what you are saying but im less concerned as we havent kept the same midfield or defence for any period of time in any game. To me we should be starting to be playing in the formation we are gonna start with and the players we are gonna start with. They need to be playing the same back four for more than 30 mins a time to really start to become a solid unit again. The chances we have had in these pre-season games we havent been converting and not having our main striker playing with the team isnt helping.
I always felt last season without the few late goals that GD chipped in with when it was looking like another 0-0 we wouldnt have been in the position we were in. Because at times with even our virtually full team out we looked somtimes out of ideas. We dont look like we have one of these impact players this season so we need to become as honed as a team as we can be.

Not too worried in the bigger scheme of things. What we have learned though is that we do not have the resources to challenge on multiple fronts sadly. The fringe players just havn't grabbed the opportunity. Will be difficult to balance the league with europa and this is new territory for Martinez. He used these last 2 friendlies as a test for league/ euro games... failed miserably.
pardon?...can you repeat that

results have obviously been disappointing but the biggest worry for me is the players don't look fit enough to complete 90 minutes. Baines was f****d at the end of the game, barry barely moved except for the odd jog. Mcgeady can't be relied upon as a starting winger, he has the findamentals of a top level winger but then can't complete a pass to save his life.

With only a week to go and what i would think our strongest line up should be most of them don't look fit enough

Howard

Coleman - Jags - Distin - Baines

McCarthy - Barry

Mirallas - Barkley - Pienaar

Lukaku

3 of that 11 i would say look ready to play the full 90 in the first league game. Coleman, Mirallas, Lukaku have pretty much had no pre season match fitness opportunities so have no chance of a full 90 minutes. Jags, Distin, Baines, Barry, Pienaar are all looking at about 70% fit so i doubt they will have much in the tank after 75 minutes or so.

I get that the world cup has meant planning this pre season has been a struggle but this is by far the worst pre season i have witnessed that i can remember.

On what grounds would you play Barry ahead of Besic? Barry has always been slow and deliberate in his play but in pre-season he's looked very slow and over-deliberate.

hahaha, what?

their opportunity comes when they get given competitive games.

we have 10 of our first 11 set in stone and the other place was a battle off between mcgeady and pienaar. they would have still been our fringe players, when they get competitve games and don't take them, that's when they haven't "grabbed the opportunity"

Allez Allez OH.

That's exactly right.

This whole preseason has been a test for our squad players which is why Mirallas and Lukaku haven't played. They don't need a pre-season after playing in the world cup.

The only thing it has shown is that we're utterly toothless without our star men. I'm not worried about Baines, Jags, Barry, Distin. They'll be fine but Geads, Naismith, Osman, Pienaar, Besic, the youngsters, Hibbert all had chances to shine and apart from Besic and Garbutt none have really done enough although the goal from Long was nice.

We'll be completely different at Leicester.

ever wondered why wigan were so dreadful at the start of the season and improved with about 12 games to go, maybe because they were so under prepapred pre season and were just not ready, maybe martinez needs to look at his preseason preparation. and defensively we are shocking baines looks past it to me.
