Two Different Paths, Jags and Lescott

Rooney will be lucky to get into an England 11 not to mention a world 11. He is still only 28 and should be at his absolute peak, but he isn't.
He should probably leave Utd and go play for Mourinho at Chelsea who has been casing him...but, he won't.

Rooneys career has been moulded by Stretford rather than a football man and he has followed money rather than achievement.

Rooney has achieved everything in domestic football, winning team and individual accolades and trophies. He's had a great career and if it ends tomorrow he'll look back on it with pride and rightly so.

Wayne is a fantastic player but he's not world class, he looked like he would be but he's not.

Lescott should have still been CB in City team as he better than Pony tail boy. Have to say that Lescott wins, he's not as good as Jags but medals count, unless a miracle happens an we win the World Cup

Lescott was generally considered the better of the two when they played together, certainly by non-Everton supporters. His comfort on the ball and ability to bring it out from defense was something Jags has never really had. But any Blue could see that Jagielka's defensive qualities were superior, and ultimately we received a terrific fee for him (which was sadly, in the main, squandered on Bilyaletdinov, Heitinga and Distin).

They didn't actually start all that often as the two CBs did they? Yobo kept his place for a good while alongside Jags, while Lescott played LB. There was also the nightmare few months where Moyes thought Jags was the new Carsley.

Ultimately, Lescott won a few medals but will now be playing for someone like WHU or QPR. We'd like to pretend that head wound didn't bother us, but one glance at Phil's smooth contours, cheeky smile, and hairline/eyebrows that don't look like the work of a four year-old with a piece of charcoal and we know. We just know.

Eh, I think we're blinded on Rooney by that early hope.

By any objective standard he's had an utterly fantastic career. 8 trophies, 270 goals, ect, ect.

Aye, for a career he's had a brilliant one already.

Just always felt there was a bit more to him and his raw style of play with us that never quite got perfected at Man Utd. It was tamed instead of nurtured.

This.

Alas for us and for Rooney, he was in the right place at the wrong time.

IMO the young Wayne would have become a much better player if he had been under Bobby's wing.

Footballers want to win things.

Lescott has done that, no need for comparing them IMO.

If City had offered 23m for Jags then he would have probably gone too.

I think there's a big difference between getting international caps as a squad player for England, drafted in and out and being there for a full campaign from start to finish and then through the tournament.

I think Jagielka, regardless what happens now, can claim a better England career than Lescott. Lescott has been in and out and in and around the squad for years, but he's never been first choice. This WC campaign, Jagielka played through the qualifies, the friendlies and has gone to the World Cup as one of the starting centre halves, that's a proper 2 year England career as first choice, something Lescott's never had.

I'd say Jags international career is far superior to Lescott's.

We'll see, I bet he put's some rubbish out about ambitious club, challenging etc. Hope fabio drops him because he's not playing in Europe week in week out, alot of players seem to get a good rep at everton, then leave and go downhill fast, Barmby, Jeffers, Xavier off the top of me head!

didnt even think of it like this, but if england just go on a mad one
and win the world cup weel have 3 world cup winners in our squad
how boss would that be

Some nonsense in this thread. Manchester City fans continue to consider Lescott's time at City to have been nothing other than very successful. They have a 3 page thread in which they are all sad that he is leaving and wish him all the best, whilst thanking him for playing an integral part in taking City to the next level. He isn't an afterthought at City at all.

And I would say his decision to leave a club that has won absolutely nothing since his departure, for the most domestically successful club in England over the past 3 years has been well vindicated, and I struggle to see how people would think otherwise.
