ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

For me, it's:

Pulis
Rodgers
Martinez
Bruce
Others

Not trying to diminish what Rodgers has achieved this year, as he's obviously done well, but I think people are going overboard. As Del says, if he'd won the title, it's a no brainer, as it's difficult to grab 1st, but any given year 2nd to 5th is interchangable between Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, simply due to the net spends and/or wage bills. Then Tottenham should have sixth sewn up, and any other side is playing for scraps - if you look at it purely in a financial sense.

Rodgers has done a great job over there nqat

He's top of the league with one game to be played, If someone suggested that 12 months ago you would have laughed at them

Why does he deserve manager of the season though? If they win the league next week obviously it's a no brainer but if they don't what has he done that is better than Wenger has achieved at Arsenal this season

Rodgers could finish in a CL spot and that's it, Wenger could finish in a CL spot and win the F.A cup all done whilst playing 16 more games than Liverpool

Now before you bring the money up Rodgers has spent more than Wenger in the last two seasons and I am quite sure Liverpool have spent more than Arsenal in the last 5 years

This is actually a very good post, I was jokingly trying to find things that managers may of done better, safely assuming Rodgers has actually done the best.
But your actually correct here, Wenger has had a much better season if they win a cup and Liverpool come second.
Spent less and are only in the CL because of the team he's created.
Arsena never had to sell the clubs soul to keep their striker either.

Yep I agree, Wenger had an average season but has still done better than Rodgers in every conceivable way except progress, but if Pullis's progress isn't good enough to get him MOTY, then neither should Liverpools be.

Its either down to silverware or progress, Pullis progressed more, Wenger will of won more and so will Hull for that matter.

I think that's very very kind to Bruce, to be honest.

Could make a case for Pochettino too I suppose - there's a big drop from the top three to the rest for me.

Hull are 4 points clear of the relegation zone and reached a cup final by playing exclusively lower league teams apart from sunderlands reserves at their lowest ebb.

What's Bruce done that Poyet hasn't? I mean I'd personally go for Pellegrini and Wenger above Bruce any day of the weak.

A city win tonight will do me for now.

Me too, he was just asking for alternative scenarios, that was the best I could come up with.
Hell if there was 5 minutes injury time, it would be long enough for someone to get through to talksport and explain how they are now Europes top elite club, and how Bayern, Madrid and Barca are likely to now be fearing them, before they found out they finished behind Chelsea :)

Would be a great day, but like you, I'd be happy if City won tonight.

Potentially still on for a Liverpool 3rd place mind you.
City
Chelsea
Liverpool...

That works.

What is your opinion on Coutinho being left out of the Brazil squad ? I take it that Oscar has been selected.
Yes he has and he's been dire for about 3 months.

Coutinho has been inconsistent, so too bad. Lucas has been [Poor language removed].

I don't think Brazil will do much.

It all depends on who wins the league

Liverpool win it then its Rodgers 100%

They don't then it has to go to big bad Tony

How can you give the MOTY award to a manger who finishes in a CL spot with a club that has spent 240m since 2010

He's basically achieved what he should have if they finish 2nd

What's Bruce done that Poyet hasn't?

Be in charge of a newly promoted club and get them to a cup final and league safety over around 45 games - a side that as of promotion had scored less than any club in the Championship top ten that season.

Think you're underestimating the jump from the Championship to Premier League. Bruce has done a wonderful job there.

It's that simple.
