Well said! And not something that gets acknowledged an awful lot in the wider football world (not unless it's to pour scorn on anyone who dares to still bring it up).

Personally I don't think the term "bitter" is appropriate to describe our perfectly-justified sense of grievance about what happened. Imagine if another club had caused the RS to be banned through no fault of their own: they'd bring it up at every available opportunity, there'd probably still be 'Justice for the Team of 85' banners on the Kop and a never-ending campaign to shame the bar-stewards responsible for denying them '10 times, la'. YAWN.

Yet we're "bitter" for saying they denied us a real shot at becoming Eurpoean champions?? I'm not even stating that we would have won it in 86, but anyone who denies it was a strong possibility knows feck all about football (I.e. your average RAWK-ite).

Still, better to own the term, because they're never gonna stop using it. Though nowadays they seem to apply it to any team if they don't think their fans give them the respect that the deluded cultists think they deserve.

I think I can safely say most wouldn't be upset at a City win (and I've said all along I expect them to prevail), but very, very few are advocating anything like throwing the game or cheering City goals.

Perhaps everyone should drop the name-calling of other posters with differing opinions and concentrate on giving the team a great reception in their final home game of a great season. (Sorry if that sounds cheesy).

Anyway, the main teams other than Everton who I'll be cheering on in this weekend's games are West Ham, Sunderland & Crystal Palace. Hopefully the first two can put this whole debate to bed before a ball is kicked at Goodison tomorrow. ;)

This - how can any True Blue not shout for their team Davek you have gone OTT imo OK if we win then Crystal Palace can beat the RS I will be wanting a Blues win as always - you are the epitome of a bitter blue sorry but thats the way I see it

You do know were not finishing 4th don't you mate? Since we blew our chance when we became favourites Arsenal have shown us what to do when the pressures on and they won't blow it now. So in 5 years time you'll be happy that we beat Man City at home which never changed our league position while we'd of had 5 years of their nonsense with another 15 to come. I still see Istanbul stickers in the back of cars round here. I'm easy with any view on this subject and I'll be going tomorrow shouting and singing as normal knowing deep down I want Cittee to win but obviously not showing it.

Brilliant Post ...Grievance does not come near - having said that I will be cheering my team on tomorrow to win ..we have more class and dignity than those [Poor language removed] - never forget that

That's the point I've been trying to make all day long.

I'm not happy about them benefitting, but I'll still be behind Everton.
 

Everton to win. Always. I read a comment that we need to see "the bigger picture" if Liverpool win the title thanks to us, as it will give them even more oxygen. No, if Liverpool win the title it will be because they have won the most points over 38 matches, not 1, and we should worry about ourselves not them.

We know this............ they don't !!

Are you ok with forever having those deluded muppets saying we won them the league ? Any type of banter you will come across with a red will end with this. Its how they think and work. I for one am not ok with this.

Just like if we lose to City this weekend, we're bitter and threw the game. No matter how the game went down. But i'm ok with this one though, oh yes.
 
In my heart of hearts I think we'll lose tomorrow and City will go on to draw their final two matches. Now that would be Everton.

And as for the Viet Cong, well I'm not afraid of banter. We're bitter. We have plenty to feel bitter about.
