When we get 4th how does the transfer policy work...

When we finish 4th, it will be great but it i only a CL qualifier. A qualifier where we will be guaranteed to face a great team because we have awful coefficient. The 2nd leg does get played until the very end of August so how do we go about the transfers?

Certain players would only join if they knew they would get CL and leaving it until the last couple days of the window really narrows down the potential signings, especially the ones that can only be made with CL as players of that quality rarely go in the last couple days.

If it was a team like Arsenal they would probably sign the players regardless because they can afford to take the risk as it financially wont impact them much however our transfer will be MASSIVELY effected by the CL money which means we cant take the risk.

How will we go about this. This is a major worry to me. Not signing the quality players before the qualifiers obviously means we have less chance of winning but we similtaniously cant afford to buy that calibre of player until we get through the qualifier. Through in the loss of Barry, Delo, and especially Lukaku and the qualifier becomes very difficult.

It would be gutting if we lost the qualifier. Is anyone else worried about how we go about transfer this summer?

Welcome mate.

Good point that, it would leave us in some limbo. I know Roberto recently said finishing 4th would mean we would bring in #1 targets where finishing 5th would mean quanity over quality and looking more towards #5 #6 on the short list.

I get that it would mean we aim higher. but the qualifier kind of leaves us in limbo of whether or not we can get those targets because better players want guarantees of CL.

I kind of worry that instead of getting getting say the 4th choice player that we would get finishing 5th, we end up getting say the 2nd or 3rd choice because our 1st choices wont come until knowing if we are in CL for sure and Roberto wont take that risk so will instead sign someone who is good, but not as good because he cant afford to wait.

Arsenal waited till deadline day to buy Ozil....
that aside.....lets just wait till the season is over before we start chatting about hypothetical spending money...

welcome,to the forum....

Martinez strikes me as a sensible Manager and clearly the Board are also, I think they will operate in a "worse case" manner and plan for a long season of European football, whether thats the CL or EL I doubt it will "matter".

IF we make the CL we dont get the money till next Summer anyway, so its not like we have any extra funds to "invest" other than the holy grail summer warchest we already have.

Just what I think anyway.

Yeah but CL could mean signing a better class of player.

TBH, if it really is 35/40M guaranteed coming in once past the qualifying stage, I'd spend that on a 2 storey park end with corporate facilities.*

*on the obvious assumption that the latest ground move possibility story is the normal bull.

It,s up to us to sell that targeted player this great club called Everton, and tell them together we work for more European footy with the style Martinez has brought to the club we will attract players who understand the finer thing in are style of play.

I think we need to improve the team first and foremost. Everyone else will improve next season other than the RS who will drop down 10 points or so I think but if we want top 4 again next season, we need to improve our team otherwise we will struggle with europe.

I love the confidence but we probably should finish 4th before worrying about this too much. But if we do qualify then I think Roberto would try & get Lukaku in early doors. Maybe Barry/Barrys replacement too. So 1 or 2 in before the qualifier for me. It's not like last time, we have an absolutely boss first 11 (with Rom) so its not like we desperately need to sign players just to have a hope of winning that game.

In roberto we trust. He'll have a plan, boss loan signings to power through qualifiers and 2 big signings if we get through…
