ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

This has been covered ad nauseum by other fans who are more eloquent than myself. In a nutshell, during Rafael's tenure, we had very bad owners who took money out of the club and team. Following the year when we came second, rather than strengthening, key players were sold one by one (Alonso, Mascherano, Torres floundered and was eventually sold etc.) and the gap between us and the top clubs widened. Couple this with the knock-on effect of failing to secure Champions League football, and it became very difficult to secure the services of star players. Then the managerial merry-go-round began. Finally, we now have some stability and our transfer business has been very good, as well as some great youngsters coming through the academy.

Re-writing history as usual I see....... You've spent more money than Utd and Arsenal. Ffs you spent more in one year than we did over a decade. Don't go blaming the owners for the manager's mistakes, even if that is the current script......

In comparison:

McCarthy - £13m - Straight into the first team
Barry - Loan - Straight into the first team
Lukaku - Loan - Straight into the first team
Deulofeu - Loan - Great impact player
Kone - £6m - Long term injury, might not be very good
Alcaraz - Free - Long term injury, rated by everybody who has watched him long term

I know which transfers i'd rather have tbh.

Amazes me that spending £30m+ on players without a hope of getting into the first team is seen as stable and sensible policy but loaning three players is widely condemned.

Instead of buying 4-5 bog standard players just buy 1-2 top quality players every summer

Surely thats a better way to go that buying fillers for the first team

Slight problem with that comparison is that 3 of those are loans, Barry the only one who's pretty certain to be here next summer ,lukaku won't and deulofeu maybe another season but doesn't have a long term career here, so even if some of their players turn out ****e (aspas) they can get something back for them but we've sunk a fair bit on loan fees that we can never recoup

At the start of the 15/16 season you can only see McCarthy and possibly Barry in the first XI, but with them you could put mignolet and sakho as definite starters for them and possibly alberto (only time I saw him play was the spurs game and he looked like he had some nice touches) and ilori (meant to be very highly rated in Portugal)

Ok first of all thats 4 players

Second Illori has played 0 games for your lot so how is he first team ffs

Are we ignoring the Allen,Borini,Alberto and Sakho transfers, He spent over 40m on that lot
No, not at all. I can see how my wording was ambiguous. The 5 first teamers are: Mignolet, Sakho, Allen, Sturridge, Coutinho. They are all successful transfers. The ones for future are: Borini, Alberto, Illori. Aspas was meant to be cover for our strikers following the Diego Costa deal not going through. The jury is still out on him. But, there aren't any obviously bad signings there, so I don't see what you mean.

Oh, I forgot the Moses loan. I'd class that as the poorest acquisition, but it's not such a big deal.

I fail to see how them being loans is a problem.

We're paying their wages/a loan fee. Lukaku is probably costing us about £4m in total for a year. Barry will more than likely sign on a free in the Summer and is probably costing us about £60k a week with no loan fee. Deulofeu may end up costing us nothing if he makes enough appearances.

In comparison, Borini, Assaidi, Aspas, and Alberto cost Liverpool £20m+ and are all on the wage bill, while not a single one of them is making an impact in the first team.

Anybody who says they'd choose the latter because they might be able to sell them (good luck getting decent money) is bonkers.

Don't get me wrong. Martinez has done a phenomenal job. I didn't mean to belittle his work in the transfer market, particularly the loan signings. But Brendan's hit rate in the transfer market has been remarkable.

FFS.

How has it ?

I've just given you a list of £32m worth of players who have done [Poor language removed] all since being purchased. That's certainly remarkable i suppose.

You said that you watched him be ineffective many times. I took you at you word. If you meant to say that he didn't impress you vs Everton and that you haven't heard Lawrenson mention his name many times on MOTD, then just say that.

His assists are lower than last season, but this is misleading as far as his importance to the team is concerned. He leads the league in clear cut chances created (total) as well as the frequency with which they are created (/min). Also factor in that (a) Liverpool have hit the woodwork more than any other side and (b) the pass immediately preceding an assist is not quantified. The most telling stat is that when he has started, we have lost only once, whereas we have lost every game in which he hasn't.

How does it feel to pay a racist £200k a week mate? That certainly takes some doing that. All in the chase for some silverware.

Principles eh. Think it's safe to say you are a one man team at this point.
