Without Moyes we would have been relegated of that I am sure

He turned an awful ageing Everton side into a team that now finishes in the top 8 most seasons

He brought us Cahill,Lescott,Jags,Arteta,Coleman,Baines,Super Kev and Fellaini to name a few

We needed a change, He needed a change, Lets not make out he did not do a wonderful job here and act like bitter beauts

The thing is Moyes said he didn't think he could "take the next step"

Roberto Martinez came in spent a bit sold a bit and EFC look to have jumped about another ten feet.

I think Moyes lost motivation. Probably with Alex Ferguson in his ear.

Martinez is chomping at the bit. Not seen someone look so hungry for years.

Without Moyes we would have been relegated of that I am sure - pure speculation and nothing else

He turned an awful ageing Everton side into a team that now finishes in the top 8 most seasons - eventually with the aid of 20 odd million

He brought us Cahill,Lescott,Jags,Arteta,Coleman,Baines,Super Kev and Fellaini to name a few - He did well with bargain buys

We needed a change, He needed a change, Lets not make out he did not do a wonderful job here and act like bitter beauts - He did a decent job albeit 11 years without pressure but you could also spot his limitations a mile away. Dogged, dour scotsman with no flair.

Seems to be a lot of bitter beauts

I understand the relegation thing is just my point of view, But we where in a awful position when he took over, Think it was around the 16-17th mark

The second bit about him having 20 odd million, Well in 98/99 we spent 20m then 11m the season after, Look where that got us, Its all well and good saying he had 20m but it's how he spent it and the players he brought in allowed him to have future funds

Yes he won nothing but without question Everton are in a much much better place because of him, Lets not forget 90% of the current side where bought by Moyes, Also I would love to see another manager on his budget achieve a top 4 finish

I never post, but this thread has really surprised me. Do you guys think Roberto bought this Everton squad? He inherited a squad that was bought for a relatively small sum and is actually capable of playing the style that Roberto wanted. Have any of you looked at the transfers Roberto brought to Wigan? There's nothing there that was close to some of the transfers Moyes made. It took nearly 10 years of buying and selling to get to this point, but Moyes built a squad that can play real football. We even have a bench. Only three or four seasons ago we had benches made up entire of youngsters because we had zero depth.

We wouldn't have Lukaku right now without Moyes. He made us attractive enough that a player of his quality would actually choose to come here. Moyes had one glaring issue that plagued his entire managerial period with Everton, and that was his inability to take points off of champions league sides. When you're a perennial 5-6 placed team, every match against a champions league is a six pointer. We were always too negative and just seemed to not have the drive to beat these teams. Losing two six pointers a season against each team at the top was always going to keep us out.

So yes, Roberto is an upgrade because it actually appears that he goes after these teams if Chelsea is any indication. But it's still early, so who knows? But lets not rip Moyes because we owe him a lot. He made us attractive to come to, he signed nearly out entire first team, and he's placed us in the position where Roberto can turn us into winners. Look at Villa who once were at the same level we are just a few years ago and are now battling relegation yearly. They had a great squad but it still went awful for them. Don't take what Moyes did for granted.

Moyes had no hesitation trying to smash down the house he'd built

To try and add another bedroom on the palace he's just moved into.

Then ****ged off the new resident (martinez) when he objected. To knocking down the diy renovations hes just done to his new gaff.

Hence moyes is going to get slatted

Moyes may have been the former occupier. But this club has a new resident.

Moyes cant just swan in when he likes. He doesn't live here any more.

Hes already stolen the garden gnome with the funny hair. Hes not getting the one with the sweet left peg too.

Most teams will have inherited squads and another manager will do well . There's not Many fergersons or wengers out there who can build squad after squad and be successful . Even giurdola has inherited bayerns squad . He seems to have done well with some transfers . Hopefully the Wigan raiding has finished . The older he gets the more he will learn defensively so we shouldn't have a problem as that's what wigans problem was

Spot on. It's not a virtue of Moyes that he left decent players, it's the natural result of having 11 years in the post and going through scores of players to arrive at that point.

Not going to argue here but Martinez and Mirallas were the main reasons Lukaku came here with the emphasis on Football.

We have never had a bench with Moyes, RM purchases and loans plus the promotion of youngsters has made that bench the strongest we have ever had it.

I will hold my judgement for a little while but saying Martinez is an upgrade on Moyes I feel may be an understatement.

The most impressive attribute of RM is his football ideals. Its the only way teams nowadays are going to progress (because its becoming a non-contact sport). He is looking long term and not a quick fix of in yer face hoof type of football. I just felt with Moyes he was like an old book whereas it was same old same old and you knew the ending. He seems IMO tactically inept compared to RM. We may finish between 8th and 11th this season but at least we know that we are a work in progress and there may be light at the end of the tunnel. We thank Moyes for making us more respectable but the stigma of plucky little Everton is also his doing by basically bigging himself up by belittling the Club. Only my opinion of course but I will stand by it that he never knew what Everton was about.

After just three sentences you have cut off the branch upon which you were perched.

That's what we have all been saying here for the past couple years.

Heck, Moyes declared the squad he had two years ago as "the best he has ever had".

But he couldn't make it happen on the pitch.

We should have been playing in the CL this week, such was our strong position round about Christmas....and a tactically astute, progressive manager would have cajolled that squad over the line.

FFS look at them now, the same squad basically with a few loan signings and a manager whom utilises everyone.

Then look at what Moyes is doing at the Champions.

I maintain. Alex Ferguson was the origin of that attitude. Plus the stigma. Moyes bought it. That you got from his first Manc press conference talking about taking our players.

With Martinez its Everton this. Everton that. Sky is the limit.

Everton and Arsenal won all their league games in September.

Looks like it's either Martinez or Wenger for manager of the month then.

Was skeptical over his appointment but he's made a brilliant start and long may it continue. There will be the inevitable bumps along the way but on the early evidence I'm happy with the direction he's taking us.
