Chico's ducked that point from me a couple of times lid.

Still yet to hear a compelling argument to suggest that Roberto Martinez and the vast majority of Premier League managers are wrong to rotate in the League Cup. Probably because there isn't one to be found!

Hahahaha. Sure lid. So we needed to make eight changes and play an experimental back line against Fulham last night?

How about bringing attacking minded players on when chasing the game?

Rotation, to an extent, is fine.

Rotating 90% of the team away to a decent Premier League side is asking for trouble.

I think heitinga and naismith could player every game of the 1970 world cup for brazil and still not be ready to play for everton, if I'm honest.

Robles is a reserve goalkeeper, sitting on the bench is kind of his thing. And gibson wasn't fit to play as long as he didm should've been given a little longer to recuperate.

I meant your lose League games point, stop saying it, FFS.

Its not rotation, Lukaku is a first team player, so is Gibson, there was nobody on that pitch who "didnt belong", maybe Heitinga, its not like we played a bunch of kids, we played a team of Internationals.

The argument is still that it's easier to get into europe through the league cup than through any other fashion (in terms of number of game and in terms of opposition) and easier to win a trophy through the league cup than any other way.

Of course the problem with that is it assumes playing in europe and winning the league cup are things our club want to do, and apparently a lot of our fans think they aren't.

Yep. Regardless of the time until the next fixture, because that's what the League Cup is for and is treated the same way by pretty much every Premier League manager, unless you're unlucky enough to draw rivals early doors. And even then, check out United's changes tonight to their starting eleven.

You'd play the starting eleven in a League Cup 3rd Round game - the vast majority of Premier League managers wouldn't. What does that say about your view on this?

As Mkrudden has pointed out, Premier League sides rarely play a starting eleven all the time

Correct, and changing not just a first team but a winning first team.

I'm not too arsed about it now but Tubey started a thread for a reaction after an argument he had with Brennan and got called out on it as such. Now like most threads on here its reduced to arguing nuances.

Eight changes is rotating players, regardless of who is coming in. It's like when you fall down a hill, you might belong on that hill but you're still rotating.

Yes but the risk to reward ratio isn't there - you get to the final and lose, and you gain next to nothing monetarily and you've cluttered your fixture list with extra games that are almost meaningless to the business.

And Everton are a business. There's a reason the League Cup is treated as it is by Premier League clubs - it's surplus to business requirements.

Gibson plays when hes fit, most of the time, Lukaku should start every game, people crying out for Stones to get games and the Barca lid, honestly, Baines, Mirallas and Barkley missing.

What about Liverpool playing a more or less full strength team, you ducking that too?

So that helps displace your second point about what the rest of the managers are doing doesn't it? And besides as has been stated numerous times were in a position to win it and get the easiest passage into Europe, as well as winning a cup for the first time in nineteen years.

So there you have it.

Nope, because I've addressed that in the post you've just quoted. It's a "big" game for them as it's a derby, they can't afford to duck it.

But if they were playing Fulham they'd be putting out a rotated squad.

Also, this ^

We rotated the squad and put out by and large senior players. You'd swear we'd put in the under 18s.

Liverpool also "rotated" their squad.

Yeah. There's only five weaker players from our first team in it for me. A not ready gibson instead of barry, oviedo instead of baines, robles instead of howard, naismith/mirallas and barkley/heitinga.

Martinez main mistake for me is not making subsitutes quickly enough and not bringing on his attacking players when he did make subs.
