Despite the fact they're not exactly skint it's taken a pretty special manager to keep them above the likes of Chelsea & City as the dominant force. Player for player they aren't as good as either IMO.

Whoever takes it has a big job on their hands. With him sitting on the shoulder too it's not for the faint hearted. The best thing he could do is walk away and give the next fella a clean run at it.

If I was an up coming manager I wouldn't take it or I'd clear a load out and start fresh if I did.

Not dissing Ferguson but come on!!! He spent more money per season than any other club when he took over Utd, nearly lost his job then the Premier League was formed which was probably more financially beneficial to United than any other club. They continued spending big and this only slowed down because they had already spent enough to have the best team in the land so it just needed tweaking every now and then. Ferguson had a great advantage over almost everyone but still hats off for making the most of the money and keeping them up there but they are not that much different from City and Chelsea.
