Distin

Bumping this because where's the Distin thread lads? I can think of threads throughout the season to lament the form of Howard, Osman, Jela, Neville, Pienaar, Neville, Heitinga, Neville, Mirallas, Neville, Baines even maybe?, Neville, Neville, Neville, Anichebe and of course Neville. Has there been one for Distin in the last few weeks? Because he seems a little off. Above criticism because of his handsomeness? Afraid Brennan will take a run at you?

Or did I just miss the thread? Distinct possibility.

Anyway ... not like I'm fuming or anything and it happens from time to time to the best of them. He's probably played slightly more than is ideal for someone with his experience. Obviously the poor form of Heitinga has forced Moyes' hand (and I don't think many would disagree with that decision). Bit of a concern moving forward but hopefully he can pull it together.

Or has he not been that bad? Also possible. I'm no football expert like the lads on MOTD.

Hi Nj.

There is so much wrong with your post, I'll let others point it out though. Thanks for the input though.

I think you're right a little bit mate. He's been off the boil a little, but he has still been decent, defo not one of the poorest.

Frightening how much we are conceding though

Nobody has been setting the world alight recently, the whole team is struggling at the moment. Like has been said though, he's still playing well except for a couple of lapses in concentration.

Still love the big sexy beast though.

Consistent beyond every other player at the club bar the irrefutable King of Consistency Leighton Baines.

Strong, fast, great recovery ( for himself & others), great fitness and a real connection with the players, the club and the fans.

Man love material.

I think when he shut off for the goal against Oldham it was just a momentary lapse in judgment, and thankfully wasn't one that we were truly punished for as we still won.

I think maybe giving Duffy a chance against Reading would be a good idea, you just can't expect a 35 year old to play 40 or so games in a season like this.

I think like most others in the team, looks tired at times! I think they all need to learn how to put the ball at people's feet and stop making each other over stretch and chase down. He had a few wayward passes but not the worst of the lot.

Is this just because of his one mistake against Oldham?

he's been one of our more consistent lids, makes the odd mistake but who doesnt. We have bigger problems than the big fella. TBH, i forget about his age until someone mentions how old he is. His performances belie his age so suggest he has another couple of seasons in him. He is ace.

He's a great defender even at 35, if he was a few years younger he would easily pull in 8 figures. The only fault in his game is that he has a monumental screw up in him which comes to the fore in pressure games, other than that and him not scoring many goals he's got a complete game for a centre half.

love the way he shepherds the ball behind for a goal kick shielding it from the opposition,, he seems to do it countless times during games, more than any player i've seen even, when the ball is barely moving, and u're thinking there's no way that balls going out. i always get a great kick out of it, and say world class every time he does it.... it's the little things eh!!

Okay sounds good ...

I think you're right a little bit mate.
Uh-oh. Didn't you see what Bryan said?

He's been off the boil a little, but he has still been decent, defo not one of the poorest.
Agreed.

Yeah we've been slipping from 2nd or 3rd best in goals conceded to tied for 7th now. Fatigue feels like the most likely cause although I'm aware of other theories.

he was badly heitinga for oldham's goal on tuesday
I enjoy "badly heitinga" to describe poor defending ... even though the poor [Poor language removed] has generally been a solid pro for us.

You may have to do it yourself at this point. I'll say two quick* things:

1) The worst I said was he was a "little off." ... and that's a "little off" from being "very good at football." So if you disagree so strongly you either think he's been completely terrible or really great. Anything else and we're really not that far off from each other to warrant "so much" being wrong. Unless you took my MOTD joke seriously in which case yeah I probably look like a mentalist.

2) The point of my post was not "Distin is crap ladz!" My point was I've seen "what's wrong with ____" threads for people I believe are playing relatively well at the time. I jokingly put Neville in there lots but literally all the players I mentioned have had threads this year for how "badly" they've been playing. Even the tiniest dip in form usually gets someone a knee-jerk "he's washed up!" thread. The fact Distin didn't (AFAIK) shows a great amount of faith and respect in him. Could be interpreted as a compliment in a way.

*Obvious lie I never say things quickly.
