2025/26 Charly Alcaraz

Yeah I like how much he cares but he’s not this game changing player some in here seem to see.

I thought he was brilliant against Palace, but that was more down to effort and chasing round the pitch than any quality on the ball. I think the reason so many hold him in high regard is that he's never had a long spell in the side to show the reality of his overall ability.

He’s a decent player but you’ve been OTT about him since we signed him.

Lots to like; plays the game like it matters, hits a heavy ball, like you say he’s not scared to try things.

He is though a real concern when we don’t have the ball, zero intelligence in the way he plays and looks positionally inept.

I think there were a couple of times he tried to press with a teammate but shut down the same lane they had already done, allowing their player to just turn out into the gap. I remember N’Diaye distinctly looking confused how Hall had got out.
That gets fixed by playing more not less

He was superb, in a game and circumstances that hid all of his deficiencies.

As always the truth is somewhere in the middle really, he’s alright.

Equally as likely to be playing for some obscure Eastern European side in the Europa league in three years time as he is to being a top quality premier league 10 for me.

Deserves better. We need to shape the team to suit his talents. Let's face it Tim was brought in to tighten the midfield and we still got spanked. Let's give the opposition something more to think about.

If the midfield was going to be tightened up, we should have used 3 players.

I think Alcaraz is great!

Heart on his sleeve, wants to try to make the killer ball and happy to turn and run.

Effective when used as a 10.

22 years of age highly promising 10 used at LW, RW and CM in a 2 when he's done well for Moyes as a 10. Rewarded by dropping him and giving him barely any minutes.

Ive also said that if we signed a top notch 6 we could ditch the 10. Ive even said if we signed a better player at 10 then he could rotate.

We have 2 number 10s. Alcaraz and perhaps Dibling.

Moyes uses KDH there which is wrong.

I think he can definitely give us something different. Unfortunately I think a lot of the time his ability doesn't quite match up with what he is trying to do.

This is fair. Though i wonder how he'd do with consistent minutes as a 10.

Yet he has changed games in that position.

A no 10 playing in deep midfield? DM has lost the plot..

Its disrespectful to the player how hes been used by Moyes.

So we develop that to the detriment of the team and results? He’s not James Rodriguez, we can’t afford to carry him with his ‘quality’.

He’ll be excellent in specific situations but I just don’t see this hidden superstar we’re ruining.

There is no way to know how good a 22 year old 10 can be when using him in at least 3 other positions or benched when he performs well.

I actually think far more likely to be in that Eastern European team. The fact that we seemed to dither over that £12m fee says a lot.

…I like the lad but he is what he is, unlikely to get near the starting X1 when everybody is fit.

Saying that, unless Moyes has some innovative idea of a defender in the Gueye role, then I suspect Alcaraz will start the next game or two because him as an option looks better than Iroegbunam.

Missed Monday then?
This club needs to spend the next 2 years making decisions with zero focus on results. A club at our place in the league gets nothing from chasing them. Whether we win or lose a match should have no bearing on the players or the manager right now. It’s are the players improving and is the team overall improving. Monday was neither even though we won, today was neither when we got embarrassed. Neither game helped this club move forward.
