The problem with following up an heroic against-the-odds triumph at Old Trafford with a Hill Dickinson pratfall against Newcastle is it makes that win on Monday look more about United's feeble weakness than any great Evertonian progression. And that would be a terrible pity given the effort and resolve on display then.

But teams will be judged on consistency - and we haven't turned up here yet.
