Bad ref decisions - for and against - season 2025/26

3/11/25
Sunderland 1 Everton 1

I think we finally got the rub of the green on one. Ball hit Keane's hand which whilst at waist level was a bit away from his body. Would have been a tad harsh but as they say - 'I've seen them given'.
Otherwise a decent ref performance. Not afraid to let robust challenges go.

can’t quite capture the contact, but 100% if that was Them, Utd, City etc they’re getting a pen for this.

Massively got away with one there imo, no idea what he was doing with his hands in that position, and had moved them out away from his body just before the ball was kicked against them. Think the ref lost control a little bit which lead to at least one of their yellows and some pretty bad challengeds from their players.

Not for me. How can he react from a yard away. The problem is that the handball given that we've seen have muddied the waters. Based on the idiotic decisions we've seen this season alone this one could be viewed as stonewall, but as the others weren't penalties neither was this one. The ref and the VAR got out correct.

I’m delighted it wasn’t but that certainly looked a pen to me , a lot more than others given Against us . If not then close to it that’s for sure .

as you say ref lost it a bit and there was definitely a couple of nasty challenges from them .

More of a penalty than the few at the start of the year.. I wouldnt have complained if that was given.

I dont think I've ever head a crowd shout for so many handballs in a game. Must have been about 9 times 😆

The other player is at least a couple yards away from Keane (can't even see him in the picture above), and Keane has got both hands out to the same side away from his body, in a weird position imo.

As nobody knows what the rule for handball is these days, especially the rule makers and officials, I would say we got away with one.

I think with handballs, you can only go by what has been given during the current season. Given what we have had against us alone, that is 100% a penalty.

Also was not too dissimilar to the one given in the final minute of the Brackley Town Vs Notts County cup game, the only difference being Keane was upright whereas the Notts County player was sliding in for the block.

For me the Tarkowski one at Leeds was much, much more a pen than last night. Tarkowski saw the ball coming straight at him for about 12 yards and leaned towards it, Keane just had it blasted at him side on from a couple of yards away. I still don't think the Tarkowski one was right, but it was much more obvious than last night. As has been said, the issue is that some really bad ones have been given and so you start to think others will be aswell, but at no point in history has an incident like last night been something that should be given.
