Remembering Bill Kenwright

My thoughts- I went on one of those 'Sack the Board' protests a few years ago. As much as I think Kenwright needed to go by his final year, I've since come to the conclusion most of the mess was down to Moshiri. It is no secret that aside from building a world class stadium, Moshiri was chasing gimmick after gimmick, trophy winning managers, players past their prime etc. Your archetypal useless millionaire/billionaire who let everyone but him (especially Kenwright) take the blame for his mess.

Younger blues should always listen to older blues and on my part it was a mistake not to appreciate the fact this man effectively saved the club. A good man and very sad he's not here to see us doing well this season.

I could tell you a lot more than you suspect but because I would be betraying a dead mans promised trust I will not do that for you or anybody else. You seem to know a lot about EFC's affairs, where did you get all your information from? I suspect the media, am I right, because you also have no proof. I ask again did you know Mr. Kenwright, well I did and you will go on degrading his reputation without even knowing the man. You also named the lit-batcave in Kirkby, How can you say that over a stadium that was never built. Whether you like it or not Mr Kenwright was a very good person and you will never find anybody who knew him to say any different and that's NOT BUILT NO SENTIMENT its built on fact.
With all due respect, your entire post just comes off as "I could tell you a lot, but I won't, so you'll just have my word for it, random Internet stranger!" You must see how that comes off as incredibly disenguous at best. You can't expect anyone to take your word as gospel while you refuse to elaborate beyond "ah if only you knew the truth.". Because the facts really tell a different story to the one you'd have us believe about Kenwright refusing to go public on his charitable deeds. The idea of him being uncomfortable with taking credit for things doesn't match up with the actions of a man who was quite happy to put him imagine on the timeline walls of Goodison as though it was on par with our ECWC or any of our league titles or FA Cups! Nor does it match up to the time that he rushed onto the pitch to hog the limelight and generally steal the moment from our youth team that time they where parading around a cup they'd won to the Goodison crowd and Kenwright felt it was appropriate to grab the bloody thing from the lad holding it!

Now with all of that being said and for what its worth, I'd like to make it clear that while I stand by my views on him. I am also sincerely sorry for your loss and that of everyone who knew and will miss him. I'm sure that Kenwright was a great person and an excellent friend. My feelings on him as a chairman and custodian of the club, in no way blind me to the fact that he was a person who many people cared about and loved.

it was the removal of the EGM's, because they were being abused. (Extraordinary General Meeting)(he had a point, treat something in bad faith, lose it).

Nonesense. I attended every AGM bar one throughout his tenure, and several previous. He was taken to task on various issues because he was found out. He couldn't handle the questions..... and he became the first chairman in the club's history to cancel AGMs, because of that.

Could it have been your cologne?

Don't know what to think he was responsible for blowing the kings docks was about the percentage of ownership of new stadium but I do think he thought it was best for us even tho it wasn't. Making a wrong decision tho doesn't make him a Evertonian and we've all lost Evertonians in our families who have made wrong decisions but we love them let it go he's a blue one of us god bless I say.

What I remember about Bill Kenwright is that prior to his involvement with the club we were one of the big beasts of English football and that by the end of his involvement we were lucky to retain our top flight status and had become a meme club. I take no pleasure in his passing but his involvement in this club is associated exclusively with decline and he should not be celebrated for his work with the club.
To be fair - we were running down as a big beast while we were winning the league and ECWC. We increasingly couldn't afford big signings and then Johnson took over and things got worse. Kenwright at least saved us from that charlatan and managed to preserve our hallowed top flight status, despite years of poverty, when we could easily have spent, lost money and failed like Leeds, Sheffield Weds, Bolton, Blackburn etc. Through those years we have kept at least one thing other clubs cant buy - all those years in the top flight. I put that dien to his values and tradition forcthe club and I'm grateful we still have that presence - even if it meant years without trophies - we are eventually in a position to build back up.

Should have been hounded out after the Kings Dock fiasco, and even more so when wanting to drag us to some tesco run grot spot in Kirkby.

It’s no coincidence that the clubs most unsuccessful period in history was with him running the show.

He’s a stain on the history of the club, and should be forgotten about, as we now move on the pastures new.
