2025/26 David Moyes

You are aware the football landscape has changed? Oil money, nation state ownership, 'Champions' League riches etc. If you look at it from that point of view then you'll see that winning things isn't as simple as being a once great club as we're at a disadvantage through the aforementioned circumstances
Yes, I mentioned the accountancy aspect of football many times in this thread. It's a major reason as to why top flight football is utterly tedious and surely everyone must be fed up of talking about PSR, FFP, amortisation etc... I also agree it makes things more difficult but it's not a reason to have low aspirations.

I was in my late teens. As I grew up we were one of the great clubs of Europe. It's been shysters and losers dressed up as winners ever since. It really shocks me how many people are seemingly cool with it.

Its a big debate and can be complex that i cant be arsed to go deep into most of the time.
My short version is Everton lost that winners mentality somewhere along the line.

The past 5 years we’ve been bumbling along from season to season appointing firefighters to preserve our Premier League status because a clown nearly put us out of business. We aren’t going to go from a base line of the floor, to winning trophies overnight, I’m sorry it just doesn’t work like that. I’m confused as to what you actually seem to be demanding this season.
There's always a reason why we should keep our expectations low. Let's say we finish 12th this season, then 10th next and 8th the year after that. You could argue that that's progress or stabilisation or whatever platitude is de rigueur but it's stagnation. I don't care if we finish in an average position of 17th or 8th, it's all the same to me. I want to see us move up the table as quickly as possible. We're 8th now, that's good, that's progress. I'm not sure our performances deserve that position but who cares? Those performances are why I'm not optimistic we'll stay there and think we'll end up lower but if we hold on to 8th that'll do me for this year but next year we have to be higher and we should be looking to win cups soon. The Wolves match was a giant red flag to me. If TFG aren't all over Moyes telling him that was completely unacceptable then they're not for me. Maybe they did, I hope so. Aspiration starts at the top.

What in the world are you talking about? No one is saying a top 8 finish should be the extent of our ambitions. That’s completely in your head. Every single fan wants us to compete and win trophies. But it’s also possible to acknowledge that 8th would represent a successful season for us given where we have been the last few years. Using phrases like making up the numbers and accountancy is just attention seeking in relation to a good season is just childish attention seeking.

Why are you so consistently furious with my posts, Kev? Recognise yourself in any of my descriptions?

What should I compare them with? Roma's progress? In the five years before TFG took them over Roma averaged 20.6 wins per season, in the five years since, they've averaged 18.4. Wobble in the noise? Maybe. The basis for uncritical support and faith in "the process"? Certainly not.
Maybe nobody and give this season a chance because the two clubs are in no way comparable due to how many different variables there are? If you can't see improvement I can't help you. It's going to be slow. We tried the rush and buy everything on hire purchase model and it didn't work.

So I can't compare us to the old Everton or to our sister club? What is the frame of reference I should use to judge success or progress?

Because you’re full of hot air. You’ve just said finishing 8th is the same as finishing 17th. That’s bizarre. If someone told you Everton would never compete for a trophy again would you abandon the club? Following Everton for me is not about winning trophies. The Martinez season and some of the Moyes seasons were far better than winning the FA cup. We played much better football, won way more games, scored way more goals and lost far fewer games. I hate the hardman NSNO schtick that some fans have. It’s just hot air.

You can compare however you want, your expectations will just be unattainable at this stage in our club's history.
What do you use as your barometer then? You have said my comparisons are unreasonable and my goals are unattainable but you haven't laid out what you think is realistic and what your minimum expectations are. If comparing TFG to Moshiri makes no sense and comparing TFG with TFG at another club is unreasonable then I just want to know what comparison works.
