I think they would have seen the impact of a cup win for Newcastle and Palace and would have been quite keen for Everton to achieve the same.
Yeah I don't doubt they would have liked to have been in the mix to win the competition, and whilst I think we should have absolutely gone as strong as possible, all things being equal, come the end of the season if we're 10th ish, and pushing towards the European places, I doubt TFG will lose any sleep over the EFL cup in their first full season. Their priority seems to be league stability first and foremost, trophy talk can come later.

Na it's a trophy mate and we're out of it only one left to go for and that's another year. That's why I go the game for the hope of winning something.... What's the point otherwise
It boggles my mind how many people would gladly get turfed out of the cups early doors to try and finish 7th in the league. If we never have even a chance of winning something then there is no point. I'm genuinely livid at that capitulation tonight. It was pathetic. I'm fed up of just making up the numbers but to not even try to win stuff is unforgivable.

I agree, the primary aim should be to build a squad that can consistently get to the latter stages of cup competitions as well as performing well in the League. If we do that, we’ll have a good chance of winning one. At the moment, we’re hoping for a lucky run which is unlikely.
