Only thing I can think of is that McNeil needs minutes in the legs if we get injuries and it's better he tries to get some more in where he plays well than have his last minutes be the trash he served up in the first half.

Correct. TFG aren't going to boot Moyes because we crashed out of the least relevant cup competition this club has done absolutely nothing in since it began. There'll be a few grumblings, but a couple of weeks from now, if there's a couple more Prem wins under the belt, no one will care one iota, least of all TFG.
